Hey Dan I love the way you set up the fuel pressure regulator. Remember you told me to buy a new one because my car was leaking gas, you said you installed it... Did you? Or maybe you just rigged it up last time the car was there so that it would push too much pressure? I tried to start the car up today and the gas line leading to the engine from the fuel pressure regulator was leaking fuel, thank God for the shitty wiring job you did on the car otherwise the car might of started and caught on fire. Now I've got a nice puddle of wasted fuel under the car. Thanks alot, I wonder how many more problems I'm gonna find. _________________ WRX Blue 1970 VW Fastback

Tell me about it. I used to go down there because one of my good friends lived in Kingsland. I've spent time at the shop and Dan seemed cool. I have a cell phone pic from sitting in the back of Corey's '58 with the needle pegged. I almost don't even want to wear my GVP shirts anymore for fear of ridicule, but in VA nobody knows the difference. I'm glad my boy never let them work on his '59. _________________ - '57 Sunroof Beetle (project)

All I have to say is wow. I had no idea all of this was going on. I almost took my 66 to GVP about a year ago and now I'm glad I didn't.
However, I am regretting selling it. I'm looking for another pre-66 if anyone knows of one! Thanks! |

Well Dan I hope your happy that you made out with over $9k for a shitty excuse of a restoration. I guess you just cant trust people, I worked hard to get the car and save for the restoration, you promised me it would be cheap-$1500-$2500 for a paint job and seeing as I was only in high school then and that was about all I could afford so you hooked me. Well this was July 2005, You gave me a guesstimate once you saw the car and everything and I was dumb enough to fall into your scheme. After two months of my car siting at the shop you finally tell me I need new metal for the body. SO I bring you a shell in great condition.
You did not once mention I needed new fenders and/or doors.
So, about 6 months after I bought the new shell (which I tracked down with no help from you except use of your trailer) My car is finally done. I was excited, It looked good, Corey did an excellent job on the paint, and I just had to come on Saturday to pick it up. So I wake up early that morning, excited to finally be driving my car home and we get there to see that its been sitting outside all week and you haven't completely finished the wiring and the car is also very dirty, we turned back and came back next week.
On the ride home, my headliner was falling down the whole time the windows were open so I had to shut them and sweat my ass off the whole way home. I really wanted to be able to drive my car for some time so I opted to wait to have you fix the headliner. Anyways, time goes on and I kept my car in the garage daily and washed & waxed it weekly. Well one day as I'm washing the car the paint chipped above the window on the passenger side, all I did was run a towel across and it chipped off into the towel. Anyways, you agree to fix it as well as a few other tiny things, including the headliner.
After that was fixed (which took about a month) I drove the car home and the headliner was still falling down, but once again I wanted to wait before I dealt with it. A few months later I noticed some rust bubbles on both front fenders. I contacted you and you said you would fix them. A month later it came out of the shop and I could drive my car again. in about May 2007, I contacted you because the rust was back AGAIN and this time on the front and back fenders. I took it to the shop and you said you would have it done before July 7th, about 2 weeks later you emailed me telling me it wouldn't be fixed in time and that I also needed new fenders and perhaps a passenger door. I opted to take the car home for the time being (because I figured you would leave it outside) When I got there, there were 2 nice holes cut in the driver side fender.
In October, I finnally got the 2 fenders and a door needed to fix the problem, and of course you said it wouldnt be done in time for turkey rod run. I dropped it off with the fenders and the door. You weren't there so I couldn't put the fenders and door in the shop. Nonetheless, the car sat outside untouched and further rusting, as well as the parts I brought. Corey also brought to my attention that the car was unlocked for a good deal of time, but he locked it when he noticed it. I went and talked to you and you decided that I needed to pay for your fuck up and give you between $1200-1500 to fix the front fenders, I said no and you said you would still fix the headliner and the rear fenders for free.
Well, on the 14th of December I got this email

and wouldn't you know it Corey actually emailed me a few hours before you did to let me know you had shut down and my car was sitting outside. So I went down to the shop that night and picked up my car, dirty as hell and still has a huge hole in the fender
and still rust bubbles in the rear fenders
So I hope your happy Dan, you screwed me over, and moved away from your problems, and you got away with it without a single problem. Thanks for fucking my over in a big way.

i will say this. (not directed at Corey)
if Dan didn't do the work then the others are just shooting themselves in the foot about poor work if Dan was never around.
it reflects directly upon themselves and their work.
leave the name calling and the petty stuff at the door. _________________ Frank

Patience doesn't come naturally for me. Through the years of working at GVP I must say I learned to have a little, But I still don't have any tolerance for people who just make excuse after excuse. Come clean & tell the truth is how it should be. I'm mainly a get it done person, don't like cars sitting around.

Thanks Frank, you are one patient person that's for sure. Wish I hadn't had to look at it just collecting dust for more than a year before given the go ahead to do the work.

Edited my posts.
I've wanted to voice myself about it because the majority of people here have been screwed by a shop in one way or another, whether it was GVP or another shop and I didn't want anyone to believe the shop would be turning out any more of my work, and that they sould be extremely cautious about any large sums of money deposited as I knew the shop was on its way out. If I hadn't done this when would the truth come out? |

Its not my place but I do have an opinion on this. An employer can be a doer or a teller. Meaning he can do or work by example or he can direct. Sounds like Dan was a director, Which is completely fine. He has to take the grunts, the credit or the discredit for Corey's work or for anybody else's work. That is called being a shop owner. I understand that you might be disgruntled Corey, but airing your dirty laundry along with Dan's is not the right thing to do. Stating that you are not working for them anymore is fine and I think your fans or people that appreciate your work that you do will follow you. No real need to start bashing.
Dan, IMHO, you need to edit your posts to just the facts and move on. I wish you luck with your new endeavor. The same with you Corey, state the facts, move on and anyone interested in why you left should contact by PM or email. Believe me, many people will respect you for it.
Now for the guy that would not clean the pisser, dude come on. I don't know, but if you are at the bottom of the totem pole, some one has to clean the pisser. Why that came out first as your reason to leave shows us your age. You guys need to filter what you say before you type it.
For instance, some guy shows a link of the blue fasty and discredit GVP as he should, but as far as we know from this thread,

as far as dan goes, wow. where do i start? he shouldnt have started GVP not knowing what he was getting himself into. The shop looks okay from the exterior, but honestly in the few months i worked there, i seen dan work maybe twice. wes and corey did all the work. dan was always trying to make excuses on what else he had to do and all. |

As of 10:00 AM December 14th 2007 I do NOT work for Dan Branham, German Vintage and Performance, GVP or Branham Industries LLC
I advise anyone doing business or planning on doing business with this person be very cautious. I personally wouldn't recommend it.
Yes, you may think I'm just a disgruntled former employee. Just take note that I had been working for him for almost 3 years, was there when the place started and saw things you wouldn't have.
I'm sure the other 4 employees that left GVP will chime in also.
oh, this too, his samba name is iamahugvwnut

i will as me being a past employee, i have to say:
ive been waiting for the day this happened, and corey, im super proud of you.i cant believe you stuck around that place for this long, i know for sure i couldnt have.
as far as dan goes, wow. where do i start? he shouldnt have started GVP not knowing what he was getting himself into. Dan has had cars sitting in that parking lot for over a year.. ?? what for? well.. maybe because he only had one employee.
anyways enough about that sad shop..
corey on the other hand, does amazing body work. i trust any of my cars with him anyday corey, keep on trucking. your the one that will be something in life.

I took my 67 up to GVP. I have no real complaints, the only thing really, was it took longer than I expected for the work to be done.
That being said, the body work and the paint on it was great. I believe that Corey took care of that part.

Saying "honest" twice in the same sentence, kind of like a double negative? Honestly Dan, I bet you were really going to tell me today, honestly. I think I would have beat you to it. Notice I did drive my van so it all could get loaded today?
Right Dan, you are a stand up guy always up for doing the right thing. I'm sorry I was mistaken.
Getting shut down or you shutting down either way it doesn't matter. I'm off to work on some VW's, which I wouldn't be doing packing your bags for you.

He was here through the worst of the times here for sure which all new businesses have some more so than others and if any of you have started your own business you know if not then what you see is not all that is going on. However just packing up and leaving when I leave for 15 mins is a great way to quit. But I am not out anything I have better things on the horizon.
As of yesterday I have accepted a job offer making alot more than most could working on cars and will be moving back north to do what is best for my family. I am not quitting working on cars but going back to it being a hobby and not supporting my family and I want to go back to working on my own cars which I have barely touched in 4 years.
Thank you for all that have supported the shop here in the time its has been here open full time.
I will be listing alot of parts on the samba to lighten my load for moving also if you are looking for anything please call and we can set up am appointment in the near future to have a garage sale. However no equipment is getting sold just parts.
Thanks

Yes Dan, it was crappy a little bit. The more I think about it, it's not. You hadn't notice I had already moved the majority of my tools out a year ago and think I was leaving, c'mon rocket scientist. 3 weeks ago a guy came by to lease out the building, said you were moving. I said, "uh, that's weird hadn't heard anything of this. Guess I should look for another job." Then other people started showing up telling me I better watch myself because the shop was being shut down. You've tried to pll this stunt before and I told you it wouldn't be wise to try it again, so here ya go, the outcome I told you a year ago you'd get. I gave you an ultimatum more than a year ago to pull your head out of you ass or I was leaving. Along the way the next year I would remind you that nothings changed, started searching for othe VW shops to work for. You saw the ads I placed on thesamba.com. It was clear to me and everyone else that I was leaving. Nice try dan. Good luck in Kentucky.
