Thanx again guys for the info I pulled the engine and swaped the bad head with the good head and I got it running but its only running on cylinders 2 and 3. I am going to buy some spark plugs and wires tomarrow and then im going to time it. Hopfully it will run good after that. I also have to buy some fuel line and clamps just in case. If I have any extra cash I will buy a distributor cap and a rotor.
Thanx again,
Chris. |

Might want to change your spark plugs while you are at it too. That one that shot out is prolly pretty shoddy looking as are the rest. .028" gap. Also, since it has been sitting, maybe a set of Bosch spark plug wires and a new distributor cap and rotor...just in case ya know. Just remember, Bosch is the good stuff, and the good thing for the wires, they are guaranteed for life.

Oh, and have fun pulling that engine. It gets easier over time, hehe. |

I was looking at my front tires and they look like they need air big time so chances are thats why its so hard to steer like you said above Thanx for all the info. I will keep you posted on what happends with the engine.
Thank You,
Chris. |

I joined the VW world in February when I bought a 79 Super convertible. But I didn't get the deal YOU got!! No, it shouldn't be hard to steer. Beetles in general have nice light steering and the Supers were even lighter. Others on this site will give you good advice but number one thing you should check is the tire pressure. Mine is like 18 PSI in the front and 29 in the back. Yours should be posted on the door jamb or the glove compartment lid. You'll like this site. Always someone willing to help you out. |

Hi guys and girls I just wanted to say hi and that im new to this forum and to super beetles in general. I just got my first superbee for 225 dollars today The guy I bought it from babied it like crazy but he got a new truck and parked it for 2 years. When he parked it the #1 cylinder spark plug threads were striped and he used liquid weld to keep it in there. He started it up for me and I drove it home and when I went back out in it later POP right before I got to my house. I checked it out and the spark plug shot right out of the cylinder head But the guy told me it would probly be happening soon and he gave me another good head with the car Any ways its a 73 sunroof and it drove nice when it was running but it seemed really hard to steer. Are all supers hard to steer or is it just mine? Well I just wanted to say hi to everyone and thanx in advance for the help.
P.S. I will post some pics of her soon. |
