#19 on the fiche that Tcash posted for the late bay (046-00). It’s for the 78 automatic Westy. I have all the pieces except for the bushing/sleeve the bolt goes into on the bell. Yes, that makes sense dodger tom, I couldn’t find a repro to buy though. I’m thinking I might have to try and find used.

Thanks for the help!

Ian

ian, bringing up old posts that relate to your question is preferable to a brand new post.

did you mean #19 on 046-00?

not sure i’d buy a used bushing, but, if that’s all there is…..

#19 on which fiche? There are only like 103 of them. And what year, 71, 76, 78 or other?

Hey everyone,

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I feel like this is a good place to post this question. Does anyone know where I can find #19? Looked at all the normal places and suppliers. Maybe I’ll give Ken at BusCo a call on Monday.

Thanks in advance,

Ian

Also FYI with a missing bolt and the other one loose it affects shifting such that you will start grinding about every gear... and you may start thinking the tranny or shifter is fubar'd

Figured I'd just add to this rather the make a new topic. I don't have a transmission mount at all and don't know which mount I need in the schematic:

http://bustedbus.com/groot/w/OtherAssets2/t204600.gif
(I'm guessing #15, #16, #25 & #24?)

'75 bus, 6 rib manual trans. Here are some pictures of what I have (Yes I replaced the coupler bushing already. That's how I noticed the missing mount)

Im trying to find some material to make # 16. I was going to use a rubber roller for a boat trailer. Unless anyone else had made one with different material??

Up and down height is set with the slotted holes in # 12. So # 16 would stop any significant movement forward and back. My experience is that once everything is tightened back up, there isn't lot of movement though.

See if anyone else chimes in.

Same here. My # 18's are good. Its just that the ones in the pics are not.

Does # 16 act as a bumper for up and down transmission movement or does it serve as a bumper for when the transmission shifts front to back?

WW makes a reproduction of # 18 in the drawing. I have not seen the others being made.

I got #18 new (transmission carrier bushing) from West Coast Meric. 78 auto. Old pair were split and hard as rock. The heat and dry air in Phoenix great for metal, but the dry rot or the rubber getting hard big problem. My m/c's get the garage, and the bus gets the sun. O'well!

So #10 and #9 are for an automatic, right? And that part you have there vw76westy is for the manual? I have what looks like #9 on my auto, but I'm missing #10(and #3). My mechanic described that U shaped thing when I asked him what part I was missing, but I think he didn't know what he was talking about. Argh. I wonder if #10 is the same on a Vanagon, that would help my search out a lot.

Ragster, I mean the driver side. By 'alternator' I meant starter. Embarassed Guess I should have just said driver side in the first place. Thanks for the help.

Phil: Not sure what you mean by "opposite the alternator" but if you mean the passenger side upper engine mounting bolt (that would be immediately in FRONT of the alternator), then you want this:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=509127

and you may want it kinda quick since it also holds the starter in place. I believe the size is M10 x 122mm.
If you need the driver's side bolt it is also M10 but shorter: ~70mm +/-.

I am not sure which number it is on the schematic but, what size is the engine to transmission bolt on the top, opposite of the alternator? The other day I noticed I am missing it. Shocked
