There is no point to that car. Even if it only has 50 miles on it that just means you will spend another 10k to be able to drive it. For half the asking price you could buy another example that would be ready to drive. If all you want is to point to a useless car and brag to your friends please pay the asking price.
Would be a cool car if the owner wasn't crazy and someone would save it. _________________ Fatchicks: Daily drivers, donor cars, collectibles. What can't they do? |

Saw this for the first time just now... Totally dreamy. Pictures of what these were like just from the dealer are rare- This is one great car. Price may not reflect current economical values but WOW... The days of finding early VWs in this shape are over. This is still SWEET! A VW in this shape is amazing even into the 90's. _________________ The best things in life aren't Things

I thought Barrett Jackson also had a minimum value/opening for any car they run through. _________________ 71 LWB Manx style dunebuggy

| Nice car, but I doubt it would pull $39k at Barrett Jackson given the current state of the economy. |

| The owner had it appraised by a local guy. I've no idea how they came to $39K as a value. The owner mentioned Barrett Jackson but we're a LONG way from there and to my knowledge, B-J is a no-reserve auction to once it's up there, it's going home w/ someone. Further, I'm not sure if there is a fee to put it on that auction or not but would think that you have to pay a fair bit to get it listed and on TV. |
It does cost to put it on the B-J auction. They charge the seller a percentage and the buyer a percentage. Since it is a no reserve auction I have seen sellers put bidders in the crowd to bid in case it does not fetch enough. When that happens the seller ends up paying both percentages.
I have only been there one time four years ago but I think it was 10% for the seller and 6% for the buyer. In this case though he could put it up there and sell it for whatever. He did not spend all that money restoring the car.
My guess is that even the B-J crowd would not pay that much for the car! |

In my opinion, this is the sort of car that SHOULD NOT be restored.
To make drivable All the rubber even tires would have to be replaced.
The engine, sitting for 39 years, would have to rebuilt.
All of this would destroy the cars original state value
Heck, even to drive it would do that.
Trailer Queen for life I say.

Really cool Vdub with some cool period accessories. Somebody really made this car special, but oddly never drove it.
$39K, seems really high. What's the deal with the owner? It sounds like he thinks he knows something or is trying compare it with a rare muscle car find. Doesn't sound like your usual barn owner that doesn't really know what they have and would be willing to let her go for $500.
Does he even know about Barrett-Jackson? because then again, if cars there go for $100-200K, $39K is chump change to somebody that has that kind of money to spend on a car. _________________ '62 golfblau Typ 311 Limousine

Absolutely amazing find
but....NO WAY do I think it's worth that much
Sure would be cool if it was an oval or a split. _________________ Greg

It would probably be worth more with a stock steering wheel. Send me that dealer option wheel in the car and I'll hook you up with a nice stock one... _________________ Nothing screams "poor workmanship" like wrinkles in the duct tape. |

seems fishy. have a title?
Who buys a car then garages it for 40 years? |
Someone w/ an untreated mental condition. Apparently (the car is not mine and I never knew the owner...I'm only repeating what I was told), the guy saved everything. Like thousands of gum wrappers (pressed flat and stacked) and hundreds of matchbooks...empty matchbooks.
I'll try to get out there and take some more images but I'm not really much into bugs priced at $39K and the fella that now owns it seemed pretty set on the price. And yes, I imaged the title too but don't feel very comfortable posting a car's title on the web.
I'm glad people are enjoying looking at it. |

That's awesome. Reminds me of the 79 vert I took pictures of at the VW dealer in Richardson.
That's way too much for a 69. The 79 verts with 50 miles on the clock sell for around $30K. |
