OK i shared this roll up kit just a little while back , i have completed all the proper tools BUT it was completely missing the tie strap , the threads had come un done there ..........i looked around for relacment strap . looks to be called Cotton twill ribbon . comes in different widths .........so i look around and found some in China ..........i didnt want 150 feet for 20 some dollars , i made an offer and i got 50 feet for 13.27 delivered , it arrived yesterday Khaki color .......i measures some other straps for length , looks to be around 10 1/2 inch lengths . first i folded over the end twice and put a few stitches thru it there so it doesn't fray at the end ..... it looks a whole lot better with the strap , pretty happy with my repair . i am no seamstress !!! i hand stitched this up poking my finger a few times Smile

i have one more kit that needs a new strap i will try n get to today but its a later vinyl cover type .

if anyone else needs straps i have some now 1 inch wide Khaki color .

i think it looks a lot better now . some of the rust in the fabric was so bad it was like metal - rock hard so i let the rust remover work on it before i started to massage the fabric , after over an hour i added some dawn dish soap swished it around n let it soak for a hour more . rinse rinse rinse and its already dry its like 90 degrees outside so i set it out under the sun for a bit and its dry . i need some cotton webbing for a new tie cord from hobby lobby , a few stitches and it will be looking pretty good ...... none of the tools pictured came with it i bought it stricktly for the fabric cover ......i think its looking pretty good , i just painted the jack bar today so its not shown , its still wet .

it turned out good enough for me . the fabric is thin in places and has a hole already , i dont try n press my luck to much with old fabric like this trying to get every stain out , thats near impossible . i have cleaned up quite a few of these similarly , the dump soap n rust solution was like MUD !!!

the fabric doesnt rust its the tools inside under damp conditions , so i try my best to remove any rust , maybe clean oil the tools , paint jack bars to help minimize any rust coming back . and keep it DRY !!!

Bay window tools as different jacks:

Did anyone have any input on this tool bag? I have the same one in my '79 but I'm not sure of it's origin. I found nothing in the manual to assist with a tool kit for mine. Any assistance would be appreciated. TIA

My German is pretty rusty but I believe that the "-tasche" is a cloth bag while a "-beutel" is often other material such as leather or vinyl. As in 'geldbeutel' is a wallet of leather... I think. Hope that helps.

Here are 3 of my original tool rolls
I’m thinking they are:

L>R
59> 4/1 pocket tool roll, Mango bus seat vinyl
56/7 5/1 pocket tool roll, Oval green dotted cloth (Polar Silver)
58/9 4/2 pocket tool roll, Beetle/Ghia green waffle vinyl

The waffle roll has a tie L&R…not both on the left

Good question and I don't know when it officially ended.

Buses list it through the July, 1957 Bus Owner's manual on the site.

Which doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it - because the top pulley 36mm nut ended in 55

This is a valid point and I'm not sure what else it would be used for.
I wonder if they kept listing it in error?
I've never had an original late 55-57 Bus toolkit to verify the contents.

nothing too special . i used this same rust stain remover on the green canvas cover i did a week or two back . i used the whole bottle on it , when done soaking after about 1/2 hour i poured it back in the bottle . then i just use DAWN LIQUID dish soap for the final wash in a tub with warm soapy water ......on this most recent one , i did the same treatment TWICE and i used a small nylon brush rubbing on the stains ......the used soapy water was like MUD afterwards .....it could prolly use a 3rd cleaning but i didnt want to harm the fabric and called it good enough ......... i have done something similar to all my fabric tool kit rolls .......

Nice work, it looks a lot better.

I'm sure people would like to know what you did to clean it without damaging it.
I think it's easy to mess up the fabric or cause holes while trying to clean it up.

I've heard that steam cleaning can work for seats and headliners, not sure about tool kits but it's similar material so ?

here is my most recent kit . a 5 and 1 pocket green canvas . i was hoping it would go nicely with a green canvas jack bag i have . i de rusted and cleaned this fabric all up ....... bet here is more of what im showing , someone here said to keep fan belt in the pocket , i put one in and it fits .........then some one said they thought the jack bag pocket was to keep the took kit in ???

Hmmmm oh it wont fit in that pocket i thought , but it does , it fits pretty nicely in n out ......... the complete tool kit fits in that pocket ...i can thro the fan belt in the big pocket .........i has hoping these two pieces would go well together ..

sorry the one pic is so washed out but it shows the took kit over the pocket to see size ....
