Jeff Paterson the Admin for Strickly Baja's on facebook makes them. I bought a pair from him as I got too lazy to make a set. They were shipped fast and of very good quality. He makes a wide version and a short version. They come complete with mounting hardware with two choices of mirrors,

to me it looks like they all will open all the way. I plan something similar and with a cardboard mock-up the wing window opens all the way including reverse where it blasts in air.

did you see one in person that didnt work?

this is just one but they all look about the same.

Thanks for the reply. I checked out your ride. I really dig it and like what you've been ding to it.

I wasn't able to do a very good search the other day when I was stuck on my cell phone. I managed to find someone who is making them and sells them on here. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1349463

I used to do all this stuff myself too, but these days I'm on the road a lot working and don't have access to a garage anymore and all my tools are in storage, so it's easier to just get things premade and ready to bolt on. Hell, I don't even have an apartment. I'm in a hotel all week then when I head home on the weekends, I rent a room from a friend in the winter and have a 1967 C50 school bus converted to an RV that I stay in during the summer. Saves me money that I can spend on my bug instead.

Check out my daily driver build page in my bio, i made some unique ones out of 1/2" conduit. feel free to follow my design. Very cheap and simple to make even if welding ecperience isn't there. I get asked to make other people a pair quite oftenly but since I'm prepping my baja to sell it I don't have the drive to make anymore.

JussumGuy over on ShopTalkForums used a cap for a welding gas cylinder tacked to his weld table with a couple of pieces of scrap plate close to the cap to bend his mirror mounts.

Trying to find some mirror mounts and came across yours. Very nice.

What did you use to form the main hoop of the mirror mounts? I was thinking I could get some round tube rolled over an old v-belt pulley?? Or conduit bender???

For my mirror mounts, I used 1/2" x .065 wall CREW tube, like Jason Busk did for his.

Since I don't bend 1/2" tube very often, I wasn't willing to spend $250 for a die set for my JD2 bender to fit 1/2". But I have an HF bar stock bender and an old VW crank pulley.

I didn't even adapt the crank pulley to fit close on the pivot pin. It still worked fine for making 4 bends. The tube slipped some, so I used a small pair of vice grips to hold it against the block. I only took pics because a guy I know had stated it could not work without "a die set made for a real tube bender". There are more pics in the photobucket album.

Other bend radii could be achieved with different pulleys. eg smaller radius with a VW power pulley. If one were going to bend this size tube often, or a large quantity of bends, it might make sense to put out the effort to adapt the pulley ID to the pivot pin of the bender. Also, the bender could be set up in different ways to achieve the bend. This ain't the only way to skin this sort of cat.

Oh, the mirror housing is not chrome. I hate chrome. It's stainless. I was looking for painted mirrors to paint to match the metallic gray trim on the car.

Bad pic but this is on my class 11.

Works great without a window of course. If I hit something too hard it just swings back. Takes a pretty hard hit. Its only happened once when I rolled the car!

hopefully somebody with one will pipe up but i really think you are mistaken. I mocked up one nearly exactly like the pic above..... i used a roll of tape taped to the door in that same location and the wing window moved full rotation and misses it by at least an inch and will miss the cage surrounding it too.

So i am confident i will not have a problem making my still to be made copy of the ones above work with the wing fully open.. if there are factory made brackets like this i do not know. I am responding because this is important to me too... that's why i insisted my roll cage be made to allow the wing windows and window handles to function.

Extend the mirror farther out from the body to where it clears the wing window.
