I got the main jets done, but need an idle jet between 55 and 60. But that will have to wait. I'm in the middle of a tranny upgrade and new torsion bars.
I fitted the oil cooler with 2 small gocart radiator fans, but haven't put it on my car yet. I'm gonna wait till I get on the trail some to see if I need them. If it doesn't need them, I won't run it as its more things to go wrong or break or leak. _________________ Ms Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.

Those look cool! You could have fixed your backfeed issue a number of ways, but adding a second light is the easiest I wired up euro style single filament turn signals to my Thing to be both turn and parking lights. I ran the parking light through a resistor to drop the input voltage to around 8 volts, so even with the lights on at night, once I engage a turn signal the bulb will see a full 12 volts and flashes brighter.
I probably would have thrown a relay in your rear light circuit so if the turn signals were engaged with the brake lights lit, it would override the brake light and just flashed the turn signal. |

Heres what I have left on the list before I can go wheelin.
swap to a 3rib
build a bumper/skid plate
install a real air filter
Other things I plan on doing is:
roll cage
better seat restraints
re-wire the whole car
build and install thing beams _________________ Ms Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.

Something else I did was fabbed some rear brake lights. I took my stock housings, removed the lenses, blanked them off flat, cut ovals for sealed LED, and installed halo style LEDS.
Pics dont come out right, but it looks solid.
I wired them up with the turn signal and brake together, but that didnt work. Turn signl would back feed and light u both brakes. So I added the 2" orange leds for turns.

Went wheelin this weekend and broke another lower ball joint. It was the other side this time. This is getting old quick. I have limit straps on the front, but the joint pulled right out of the pocket. Before I started wheelin, I replaced all of the ball joints. Could it be that maybe I didn't clock them in the right direction? Maybe my limit straps need tightened due to stretch or poor attachments? Does anyone make a ball joint that is supposed to be stronger than stock? |
Interesting that your breaking balljoints so frequently, I am yet to have any problems with mine, and I like to think I beat it pretty hard. I realize this post is old so you may have solved the problem by now, but maybe tightening the straps like you said would help

Makin some progress. Travis and I modified my trailer to hold 2 baja's.
Should be safe after I tied em down all around.
We also fabricated mounts for my new winch. We welded the mounting plate to a reciever so that it doesn't stay mounted when not in use.
storage mount
We also put a different steering box on as I couldn't get the play to go away. I also put an Weber progressive to 2 stage air cleaner adapter on so I could keep my good filter. I'll post pics later. _________________ Ms Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.

So, today I bought a used Weber progressive 26/27 with intake. I put in on and drove a few miles to check it out. It definitely has more juice than the 34 pict solex. Hopefully it will hold up better on the trails too.
Now I need to figure out what I want to do for the air cleaner. I like the one I have, but it doesn't fit the progressive as it has an odd shape. I am considering using the adapter in the link. I could either use it to attach my old filter, or I might plumb my air inlet into the cab. I'm wondering if this adapter restricts air flow? Any input?

Does anyone have they're air inlet plumbed into the cab? If so, some pics would be nice. I'm curious how loud it might be. _________________ Ms Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.

Thats a good idea. I could weld some steel to the nuts to make it like the large wingnut in your pic, but not so big. Then drill holes in the steel that I could tie together with a cable so they can't back off. I have some extra rubber pads that go between the front beam and the body that would be perfect. _________________ Ms Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.

I would like to make is to find a way to secure it tightly that won't require a wrench to remove it. I might try to find some large wingnuts if I feel they will not loosen up.. |
maybe make a small version of a spare tire wing nut that you could put a pipe on the wing to turn it off and tighten. add a spring or sponging piece of rubber under the jack so when you tighten it then the spring would apply pressure and just add a clip encase the nut backs off.

How old was it? Was the boot split at all? |
I put all new ball joints in last fall. I've only been wheelin about 6 or 7 times. The boot was split. |
It's not often you find someone who knows how old their broken ball joint it. Once the boot splits, it fills with dirt and sand and wears in no time. Add a little off-roading fun and they go pop.
Once I get a little in and out movement out of mine then I replace them. Not worth the headache.
Jackman wheels will have a "J" on one of the spokes.

what wheels are those? |
I've been told they are old Jackman wheels, but I haven't confirmed that. Next time I have them off, I am going to look closely for some markings. They were on the car when I bought it. _________________ Ms Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.
