While not being a "family sedan" my recollection of a 1968 AMC Javelin is a late 1960s American Motors automobile.

So I sorta kinda support your dad's belief. It could have been a Matador?
Though I'm not sure why Javelin would stick in my memory, it was a very long time ago that I acquired the info. _________________ "I still say that theoretically what we really need here is a neutron flux high enough to bypass the gaps of instability."

Hi all, my dad, Mike D Hansen, has said he believes the windshield came from a late 1960s American Motors family sedan; definitely not a Pinto. He is trying to get more information, also trying to locate the tooling, and as many Boxes as possible to get a status on them for a book we are writing. We have a Facebook page called "Brubaker Box Fans" where we post photos, info, and links.
Anyone can join our page if interested. Or ask questions here, and I will pass them on to my dad. We are also in contact with Curt Brubaker.
Thanks, and best regards,
Deborah

If I am not mistaken (and I am pretty sure I'm not) the "Box" windshield is from a 1968 AMC Javelin.
I had a guy trying to trade me an uncompleted kit in the late 70's. He did let me take the builders manual home to look it over, and it seems very clear that it stated the 68 Javelin for the windshield.
I have no idea why that sticks out in my memory though, so i would double check the dimensions before ordering one. _________________ "I still say that theoretically what we really need here is a neutron flux high enough to bypass the gaps of instability."

All US Beetles were torsion bar front. The difference was whether they were king pin or ball joint depending on the year. I had a late 66 chassis that was ball joint front with swing axle rear, in 67 they went with the IRS rear with the b/J front beam. |

Brubaker box has now arrived in the UK. Its a bit rough around the edges but is complete. Steering wheel seems to be on the wrong side so will need sorting!
The inside is the worst and has been chopped around a lot. If anyone can post up some pictures of an interior, particularly the door cards and drivers side panel (where the radio is) that would be a great help. From the images I have there seems to be quite a variation in the interiors even when new.
The chassis is torsion bar front and IRS rear, was this standard on these vehicles?
More images on my website. I'll add more as I go on the build blog. Any other owners please feel free to contact me direct.

The glass reminds me of Chevy C-10 glass from early 70s. _________________ If I knew what I was doing; I wouldn't be building a buggy! |

Bump form the past.
I just found this thread after a google search. My friend's father is Mike Hansen, who owned AutoMecca in the 70's. I have spent many, many hours riding around in the "Box"!
Anyway, Mike is intent on finding one and getting it on the road. If anyone hears anything, please shoot me an email. I know there weren't very many produced and time marches on, but I'm sure someone knows where one is. |
This thread was resurrected by MotoMike, says his friends dad is Mike Hansen. If anyone would know about the windscreen he would. _________________ 1981 Aztec 7

I love those things and good score - I am quite sure that the windshield is a standard piece - Pretty typical of the time, but no clue what it is. One would think that there should be an online group - I know that there are some for things like Kelmarks. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone 1914. Ex wifes car.

Cool! I'll bet it'll be the only one in the UK, too. As for the glass, I'm thinking full size van of some sort. They wouldn't put rear window glass in as there would be a huge safety issue if a small stone hit it (tempered versus laminated glass). Good luck with it! |

Awesome!, I see you have the pics on your web site, Good Luck with it! That windscreen is pretty big, and if you think 1972, it's even harder to think of something with glass that big. Almost looks like it could be rear glass from some fastback muscle car of the era. _________________ 1981 Aztec 7

There is one listed in the classified right now, a little out of my price range but its only 45 minutes from me. Almost worth the drive just to see it.

I would welcome some more information about the brubaker box.
What is the front glass from?
If anyone can trace where the molds are please let me know. You can contact me through my website below. _________________ My website www.HeliumFrog.com |
