Then don't give ANY of them up.
The Green Machine is running even if it is messy and if you want a Panel as a daily then make fixing yours your goal.
There's always a cheaper way of going about things and your rust laws are much less stringent than ours.
You can always steal the motor from the Green Machine to slip into the Panel to get it going initially.
The cheap and easy way to go lower is get a cheap straight axle kit and some drop spindles.
Price them and see how you go.
Surely a mate can donate a serviceable Bug swingaxle box so you can go straight axle.
That or swap for your Panel's redux box rear end.
At least you don't have the shipping costs and duty we do in Oz. |
You are correct, rust is not really an issue, if someone would be willing to swap the tranny for a 68 bug trans end to end, then I am into it....I am all for getting the panel on the road for sure!!! Love it! Logos on it are a plus and I am thinking about getting some tracing paper and recreating them weathered to show the bus history... |

I would prob have to give them all up (or at least the green and the panel) to get another bus...the beetle is what it is and I don't mind seeing it leave either but it is a runner and everything I have is titled.... |

So your younger son is VW mad, eh?
You may not be able to trade the Beetle & Panel but if you get the right price selling them you could find something cool.
I like this Panel but it's probably outside you price range....

And it's in Canada.
There's this cool thing too but again, can you raise the greenbacks?

Gotta love a DD, and it's closer....Arizona. _________________ Cheers & God Bless

With 4 kids I woulda thought you'd have the wife area down to a fine art.
Out of interest, is your missus into VWs too?
As for daily driver needs, what about if you sell the Beetle and rusty Panel and find a Panel that's been straight axled?
It'd be almost as quick a daily as my IRS'd '67 Panel is.
But hey, if you don't need to sell it then DON'T!! |
My wife has been thru thick and thin with me and she has warmed up to the VWs because of my younger son...If I could trade the beetle and the rusty panel for another panel that has been tweaked, I would gladly. Nobody has really suggested any of that because they are too busy trying to sell..i would love to have a daily Panel... |

My kids love VWs too and can spot them ANYWHERE.
That said my 3 yr old keeps on pointing at Nissan vans and saying "Kombi!".
I can barely show my face.
Actually, I just thought of something.
If you have to sell 2 VWs why not sell the Bug and your rusty Panel and use the funds to get a good Panel.
That way you can keep the Green Machine which, let's face it, has a lot of sentimental value and still have a good driver Splittie.
Just depends on what you get for the Bug and Panel and what you're willing to put up with. |
Thought about that too but the beetle is my daily. Don't particularly care too much for it but I can get there faster than with the old greenie...I don't really have to sell any of them, I am just thinking about advancing in the areas that I do not experience in...(and I think it would help in the wife area too!) |

Why do you need to shrink back to 2 VWs?
I've got 3 with a 4th on the way.
Oh, wait a sec....I also have 5 kids under the age of 8 (and I'm not joking ).
And I have a double garage and 3 carports.
Perhaps I'm not the one to take advice from.
Nah, sod that.
Keep the VWs and get a bigger garage....one that holds 5 cars with workshop space.
On a more serious note, do you HAVE to get down to 2?
Surely you could park the daily driver outside.
Hey, that's it......sell the Bug and drive the Green Machine instead!
Plus the money can go toward Gerson panels and parts to resto both buses. |
good on ya mate! I have 4 kids and they love the VWs....the bug has been sitting outside because there are the 2 buses sitting in the garage. I have thought about selling the bug and driving the green machine but I also know that I have no welding skills and it costs a lot for someone WITHOUT those skills to fix it up. It would make more sense for me at least to have something that needs less metal replaced to drive....I would love a ready to drive panel... |

Ok, need some thoughts here.....I recently acquired a 60 panel and I now have 3 Vdubs sitting at the house...the 2 buses and a daily driver 73 bug...I am giving some thought to either selling this bus (which I don't really want to do) or trading this plus the panel for another one that needs less to complete (welding)....I am open to some theories....this bus is a great runner just trying to come up with a good way to shrink back down to 2 VWs and open up some garage space....I have nothing posted in classifieds because it is a pondering at this moment...I think I would like to have a slightly lowered panel or DD panel
Thoughts???? (and no, they cannot come to your house to stay if I can't make my mind up LOL) |

I just spotted this thread.
Nice work, Warriorbass, and cool Rics.
If it's good enough for Lemmy and Roger Waters it's gotta be good enough for anyone else.
Makes me think it's time to get off my tail and get my '62 running.
BTW, what is that annoying beeping on the miden voyage vid? |
that was the "fasten seat belt" reminder because my friend who was driving did not slip the safety belt on so it was a constant reminder...
YES!! Get that 62 running!!! |
