Do you mean you want to be notified of replies to your thread (or any thread)?
2 options:
1. Click "Watch this topic" at the bottom of a thread and you will get an email when someone posts a reply in that topic.
2. When you are posting, you can also click "Notify me when a reply is posted" - This is a checkbox on the "Post Reply" screen that will do the same thing as #1.
Both of those can be any topic, not just a topic you started _________________ How to Post Photos

| hello i to have a 1968 BMW 500 that now has a 1500 single port. I think its a Butterfield. The guy I got it from said he had it for close to 20 years and never had it running. A buddy of mine and myself did the basic stuff like clean the carbs set the points fresh fuel and pull started it with a golfcart. its kick start only and after the initial first time pulling it it useually will start by the second kick. Istill need to clean out the fuel tank due to all the rust in it but in the mean time Iused a 1 gal. gas tank off of my concrete saw. Ido have photos of it and will post if any body would like to see it. thanks |

| I know the post is old but, did the seller have any parts for sale? Im looking for the rear exhaust manifolds for my bike. These were made by Whitson and or Butterfield and I am desperate for a pair. |

The sidecar rig above (a Willis 4's) and the Amazonas in the video below the sidecar rig are both going up for sale most likely next week.
The sidecar motor has only 5 miles on it since being rebuilt as with the new clutch and flywheel.
The Amazonas is also going up for sale next week.
I am keeping the B&B bike. |

NOPE! They need a bunch of work to get them to fit and the trans needs an adapter to mate up to the VW case. Also the trans usually gets modified to match the rev band of the VW. They were sold as complete bikes and kits back in the 60's and 70's.
Here are a few I own, If you want more info on VW powered Motorcycles PM me.

Willis 4's
This is a VW powered bike from Brazil called an AMAZONAS you can hear it run in this video link

| At 2000 Knoxville vw show a guy rode his BMW with a VW engine adapted. Had special, maybe hand made intake that curve up and under tank with a sidedraft from a Harley, very well done and a cooler front rt side and alt front/left side bottom. He said it had some very tall gearing and rarely run in top gear. |

Yes, there is a copper gasket that fits into the round hole of the head for the manifold to seal. There were about three different size ones used. I should have a bunch of them if you need some. The sharp edge of the gskt goes down...let me know. VW mechanic of 28 YRS. Steve

| The gearbox/swingarm/drive shaft and even most of the frame are from a /2 BMW (1955-1969). The adapters were made by a company called Butterfield then later Willis. |

| These conversions have always intrigued me. What is the adapter housing/gearbox from? They look the same between those two bikes. |

Another question, there was no gasket between the carb adapters and the head. There are gaskets between the carbs and the adapters, flat paper gaskets, but nothing against the head itself. What should be there?

Finally found some time to get back to work on this. Like to have it running this spring, and I'm sure I'll have a few motor questions. I've got other threads on other boards regarding the bike-specific issues. The motor, as near as I can tell, is a '62 1200cc 40hp. The number on the front left under the generator pad is 6419243. That sound about right to y'all?
The engine has a pair of 28PCI Solex's on it. I ordered rebuild kits from CB Performance and opened up the carbs. I started in at the accelerator pump and found this:
Had me a little worried. No gummy fuel, but for some reason it seems to have picked up a good bit of water there some time. I started in on the rest of the body and was pretty pleased with what I found. Here's a shot of the butterfly. Looks to have been replaced at some point. This bike was put away for somewhere between 10-15 years minimum, so these look like they might have been rebuilt not long before it was put away.
The bowls were actually very nice inside. Obviously replaced internals (plastic floats and such). I'll replace the needle valves again just to be on the safe side, and of course all new gaskets.

That's a sweet bike. Never seen anything like that before. I couldn't tell from the pictures, but how is it cooled (besides air)? Obviously there's no fan, but is there an oil cooler hidden somewhere? Maybe its not needed as long as you don't idle for long periods of time I guess.
Congrats on the find and the buy! Keep us updated |
