Hey all!

I am back in the US and reunited with my bus.
The story continues after nearly 3 years.

I have decided to start fresh topic - this one is way too long.

So here is it:

If you travel near Barcelona (SPAIN), please, let me know. In May 2016 I'll set up a split buses only meeting that you'll get the longest distance award for sure... Wink

Really, let me know if you drive near Barcelona.

Safe travel!

Europe has changed a great deal in the last 3 years. I just spent 6 months in Germany/Italy and the immigration issues are overwhelming at times. Keep a very close eye on your Bus once it get across the pond. Safe travels!

I will say the choreography certainly works well with those dresses!

Hello everyone!

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.... and yesterday was my bday! So many things at once!

My bus adventure is about to start again soon.

I bought a motorcycle in Bolivia a while ago.
Then I traveled on it across the whole Chile from the northern most point in Arica all the way down to Patagonia to Ushuaia.

Then I went from there back north thru Argentina. Then back to Chile.
I crossed the border between Chile and Argentina back and forth many time at different places. I like it down here very much... Smile

I am in Osorno now. Huge volcano exploded next to my apt. few weeks ago.... it was much fun!

But it's been a long time since I have seen my family and also my bus! Like 3 years or so!

It's time to do something about that...
So I am planning summer trip to the US and Europe.

I would like to leave in about 1 month.
I want to visit UZI & mattcuddy in Philly and maybe some more folks around there. Then load the bus on the boat and get to Europe. And there do first Euro trip with my bus all the way to Czech Republic to see my fam.

That's the idea ... Now, let's see how it goes in reality.

Never mind. He texted me about 10 seconds after I posted the previous inquiry.

"The power of the internet" as he put it.

Has anyone heard from Peter lately? We've texted back and forth from time to time over the years, and PM'd on occasion, but he seems to have dropped off the grid. Just curious if he's doing alright. Traveling 3rd world countries alone can have a downside.

I remember he'd left his bus with someone ... Uzi perhaps .... at some point before heading to Chile. Stayed in touch for a while when he was down there, but haven't heard from him since.

Just wanna let you know guys that I have successfully finished Bolivian bureaucracy regarding my new Chinese motorcycle and got my license plate.
It was a hell, but I was able to get it done. Only one bribe was involved in the process in the amount of circa $7 U.S. dollars to speed things little bit up at one office. The cops themselves asked me for it: Do you want to wait 48 hours or speed things up?

There are no vintage VW in Bolivia to speak of. So that's why I went with the bike for now.

After I got my plates, I drove around Lake Titikaka to Peru and I am in Puno at the moment, where there is biggest religious party in Peru - Virgen de Candelaria. Hundreds and hundreds of dancers and musicians marching on the streets dressed in colorful costumes.

I have, again, read the entire thread. Except for the debacle in that horrible jewish neighborhood, with the rabbi, and the fat jew, Peter has never described anybody by their body shape or supposed (because you can't see "JEW") religion. It's a great read that I enjoyed. Here is his typical entry, one from page #1 about a group of VW enthusiasts:

PEOPLE
People on the meeting seemed to be very nice. There was the guy who I met 2 days ago and knows the Spanish. Then there was an older couple who travelled in RV to Argentina and now they wanna go to Alaska in a bay Westy (they are selling split panel to finance the trip). Really nice folks. Then there was the guy with the other split: it was a double cab in very nice condition. He said the fabricates all the metal pieces (like KlassicFAB) and he have 4 split that he owns and 2 for clients at his house. So I went to his house to take a look. Very nice.

I've seen the picture as well. Some of these folks were fat. None were called that. They all had beliefs, but none were assumed, inquired about or needed mention. It was "the guy", not the fat Mex...it was the couple, not the overweight Baptists.

Young Peter has an obvious "thing" with Jewish folks. He's entitled to his xenophobia, as well as I'm entitled to call it out. I don't know where on the scale between insensitive to skinhead he lies...I absolutely do not. Just don't sit back because you like him (I might too if I met him), and pretend that all of a sudden in a 37 page journal, he becomes a different writer who all of a sudden needs to color his characters in with the brush of "fat" and "jew". Show some integrity and guide the young man to either become more accepting of others or at least more respectful...if not of jews than at least of the words he chooses that reflect poorly on his character.

"AND THIS IS THE SHIT YOU FOCUS ON?"

probably because it was worded in a way that offends some people, and rightly so...if peter is "bewildered" by the response he got, he should think before he speaks or writes

I'm off to williamsburg tonight, an area, by the way, that I have never felt the need to refer to as having a "high jewish population"...perhaps I will have difficulty parking and will have an argument with a "fat catholic"? or maybe a "skinny blonde" LOL

how about a fat new yorker? or just a fat guy?

referring to someone as a "fat jew" is not the same as referring to someone as a "hipster"

the word itself is not and should not be derogatory; however, the issue arises in the usage and interpretation when it is used...you can read the following link for more on that perspective...it is also impossible to ignore the reality of how the word has been used throughout history

Nah...it was a valid analogy. I'd think long and hard about defending comments like "fat Jew". But we're obviously cut if different clothes.

Well said Zozo! Enjoy your travels Peter!

P.S. Ken, I'd think long and hard about making a Joe Paterno comparison again!

I don't profess to know how cultures other than my own regard one another and express themselves, nor do I believe that our culture is the perfect standard by which other cultures should conduct themselves. It's for this reason and others that I detest groups of idiots like Hillary and her posse going to other countries and telling them how they should treat one another and others. It smacks of supreme arrogance.

You don't know Peter at all. I do. I will be so bold as to say he would help ANYONE that needed help that he could provide, regardless of their ethnicity, culture, religion, or any of the other divisors that people subscribe to in their efforts to not subscribe to any.

You read his post, took it out of context because you don't understand the way he expressed himself, and immediately turned it into you being somehow victimized or otherwise maligned.

Could you not tell from the tone of response that he was bewildered by your reaction? That's because he doesn't understand that you see bigotry in what for him in his cultural difference is simply a descriptor based on many inputs he had at the time. He wasn't slamming anyone. He wasn't demeaning anyone. He was simply trying to paint a picture of his experience at that moment, in terms that he finds normal and socially acceptable. I dare say that if you went to the Czech Republic, you too may make a social faux pas or two, not out of maliciousness, but out of ignorance.

I'll not comment further. Peter is my friend. He is not a bigot. End of story.

I don't get what are you trying to imply? If someone is a Jew, what's a problem calling him like that?

I didn't call him by faith. I was referring to the way they look. If I see a hipster, I would write hipster. If I see black guy, I write black guy. Or Hindu or gypsy or Muslim.

There was no hate in my post. One of the Jews was fat so I described him as fat Jew. Like a skinny blonde. Just a description. Nothing else.

Hilarious..."Jewish" IS a faith. "The way THEY look"? I'm Jewish. Can you tell me how I look?
Sammy Davis Junior

I'm from the west coast, and was surprised by how overt and in your face east coast people are about their cultural heritage.
If Peter offended you by describing someone as Jewish, and doesn't understand why you are offended, maybe you can explain it to him
politely and with respect, without comparing him to Joe Paterno.

How is mentioning that someone is Jewish an insult?
Since you think so, doesn't that mean you think being Jewish is negative?

And if you don't want to debate prejudice, human decency and respect, maybe just sticking to forum rule #3 will suffice.

You can dismiss ignorance and prejudice if you want to badly enough, but you already knew that, right?
