Did they get to hot for comfort or for overall function? I am building a heatshield for my turbo aba same sort of design except manifold and turbo sit on the left. It gets real hot and with out good air circulation over it this coul be part of the heat up!

Id like to see/read more about the bostig turbo and its users comments.

I was told that "power adders" would be ready next summer. 180-190 HP.

The turbo is no longer available, AFAIK. I believe the problem was too much heat. (This from one respected owner who is no longer with us) Maybe other beta turbo owners can add more detail.
Jim has hinted at a new approach, but no details.

Dont hold your breath and if it does, you may need to already have a running Bostig conversion, with datalogging and 15k miles to be able to purchase the turbo.

Jim has been clear about this in the past.
Most DIYers are not ready for the extra work needed to install, tune and maintain a turbocharged Zetec engine.
And that means more work for him, without much compensation.

I drive Bostig conversions all the time and I do not feel a turbo is needed.
neither does your transmission.

Yeah, here is a better photo I found right here in our Samba photo gallery.

This one was built from the DJ engine with Digijet fuel injection. Obviously with lower compression pistons substituted.

And I didn't realize this till I saw this other photo. Apparently they made another version with lower power for the carburetted 78ps wasserboxer.

Hey Alika,

Are you familiar with this Wasserboxer turbo from the same time period?

It's the Schick turbo. This one was fuel injected and had something like 165 PS. I've seen another photo of it and it looks like they used a manual wastegate from an Audi 200 turbo. I wonder how much of the kit was Audi 200 based.

Another beta version of the turbo kit hit the road this weekend. Like other Bostig efforts, the turbo is a fantastically user-friendly product designed for the average hobby mechanic. I didn't have to fabricate anything and I didn't have to spend any time sourcing parts or dreaming up solutions to installation challenges. I simply followed the well-crafted instructions - aided by detailed CAD drawing and photographs - and dropped the guys in Boston an email when I had questions.

As others have noted, the final product is grin inducing. I'm running a preliminary "safe" tune with modest boost - even so, I can now climb hills and passes comfortably in 4th gear that only last week required 3rd. It's not a race car, it just feels like the normal, reasonable acceleration and performance you'd expect from a modern vehicle.

Good stuff.

I just got back from a trip to long Island for Buses By The Duck a really nice VW campout. I was loaded really heavy and with the turbo there was never an issue of not having enough power under foot. When out for a ride Saturday and now void of all the heavy hear it was nice to take her out and open her up. The two rides I gave and when I let them drive it both drivers
were surprised how peppy the turbo set up is. I am hoping to send some
more business Bostigs way. By the smiles in their faces they did enjoy it. I just wish I could the damn thing to shift right. I am starting to think it might be the tranny. It's not one of Daryls unfortunately. I have one of his fine products in another van but it's not geared for the zetec. It'll kill me if the turbo ends up being down cause of the tranny.
