You might want to try earlycj5.com I have been a member there for years and it's a great sight. Helpful and no flaming going on. Hope this helps. I have enjoyed looking through your build. |

well guys i sure am missing the good forums i have been trying differet forums for jeeps with not much luck. there isnt the "FAMILY" feeling of the people you meet with jeeps like there is the vw world. oh well i might be a part of the vw family again some day. i have put over a thousand miles on the jeep and averaging 21 MPG. fixed all the weird wiring issues and had to rebuild the power steering pump. found a tranny for it for 100 bucks. so things are doing good and the family enjoys it. just wanted to stop by and say hi |
Was wondering if you were ever coming back to check in...
I used to ride Harley's back in the day's of brotherhood, and good times. Now its just a bunch of "Ego's". I did the jeep thing myself for awhile too. I didn't care for the attitudes on a lot of sites, but I will keep my opinion to myself.
Now I'm building a rail and so far Samba has been quite helpful and polite like a good forum ought to be.
Glad your enjoying the jeep, but don't let that stop you from checking in with us here, you have some good input on rails and such. |

Hello
Thought i should thank you all for the help and input you have given on this build. I cought myself up on the history of this build. I will tell you that he did a great job and it runs like a bat out of he!!. I hope to find him on a cj form and watch his handy work on the 5. As of my plans for the buggy is disk brakes up front first off. Found a kit with spidels and all. Going to order this week. I just came off a rather large project and seem to want more to do. Had plans for the cj but ended up blowing my budget on s10 377ci build. |

Good Luck to you with your new CJ-5! They're a blast no doubt, but I'm looking forward to my VW rail build because my jeep only gets about 10 miles to the gallon!
Here's my '76. I did a complete frame off restoration and an SOA conversion. 304 v8, dana 44's.

top is in fair condition. a few holes and my wife needs to stitch up a seem for a strap. there is no rust in this thing at all. has a iron duke 151 4 banger. motor is supposed to have about 2000 miles on rebuild. 4wd works great. and everything is nice and tight on it. only problem is it pops out of reverse so you have to hold the shifter. the wiring is not much to brag about and needs some attention. i will get that cleaned up and how i like it. we have put some miles on it this morning and its working good. it has power steering and power brakes. the heater blows HOT so im gonna leave the top off for as long as i can i recomended this site to the guy that got the buggy so he might be floating around soon. _________________ My build thread:

My tranny is a type 1 swing-arm and the previous owner told me that it had been rebuilt. My transmission guy confirmed that many quality components have been installed, however many of the clearances were out of spec hence it had an annoying noise / whine, so he went through it again and re-set it up with all the correct tolerances. I know that it has some quality components, including a super diff, extra thick double side plates, bearings, plus many more, and close ratio gearing that really matches the power band of my 2.3T motor. (I have all the documentation around here somewhere) My cable shifter is a PBS system, and shifts very positive every-time.

I have just seen this post, and I noticed that it included Ford 2.3 motors, so I have just read through the last 8 pages to catch-up, because I also own a 2.3 buggie, with a draw through turbo, which originated from a 1980 Mustang Pace Car.
I have a modified un-cracked head from an `88 T-Bird, which has been ported and polished by me, for alot of Extra power.... With a Roller Cam and rockers.
I am a die-hard 2.3T guy, originally from London, England, and have a modded FI version in my daily driver (Merkur XR4TI) and a carb version (for simplicity in the desert) in my buggie. But I now live here in LA, and Glamis is my Playground.

well i got the starter installed tuesday afternoon. i moved my ground wire straight to the starter bolt. it still isnt quite right. i think im going to put a bigger positive battery cable on it and instead of running it through the master kill switch i will just run it straight to the starter and then jump to my master kill switch from the starter. i drove it to work every day this week and its working great. i ditched the crappy ass empi side mirror and got a 6 in. convex impliment mirror. it works great. i mounted it twords the top of the windshield frame and i can see everything behind me and beside me. those empi mirrors should be banned! it never would stay in one spot no matter how tight you cranked it. im going to shoot it with a shot gun i might take it down to randolph ORV park sunday. i dont have a skid plate yet so im just going to watch the other idiots tear their shit up. labor day weekend should bring all the hill billies out for a good time if my buddy zach wants to go we will drive the buggy down there. its about an hour drive south.
i think im going to ditch the front wheels for road use. im going to go out to the junk yard and get some drums off of a ball joint beetle. and the front wheels. i will cut the drum part off and use them as a hub so i can run some 4 lug wheels. one of my front wheels is slightly bent now so it shakes like crazy past 65. those old steel spindle mounts are hard to come by so im just going to mount my front sand tires on them and use them for the dunes i will have to get some conversion bearings but thats no big deal. _________________ My build thread:
