Hi Mark, I read some of your posts and I hoped that you would be willing to help me with this quest.
I am in need of a new/used/rebuilt engine for my 1984 vanagon here in San Diego. It just pooped out, and so my mechanic (BRU Auto) told me it is time to replace it (cracked engine block, I guess). Any suggestions, can you help me out somehow? Also, Lucy looks great. I would love to get my orange van freshened up.
Thanks a lot. I am looking forward to any assistance with this search. I am a bit lost here.

Damn man I didn't know you were out west this summer. I was everywhere from san diego to vancouver from may-october in the van by myself (with the occasional friend/couchsurfer). Just got back to Austin about 2 weeks ago, too bad we never hooked up- _________________ 50+ YouTube videos - brakes, bearings, CV joints, 1.9/2.1 cooling system, mods, Bostig and more... |

| Is Mountainview where you plan to make your home? My family and I after meeting you guys in Key West last early spring, have had a lovely time following your adventures and wondered if you had found the end of the rainbow yet. |

Here are a few words to re-cap some of our travels over the past 5 weeks:
we left Mountain view for the northern CA coast. headed up the 101. Windy hilly roads.... pretty, but made me sea sick just going on them windy roads.
Drove through the Red woods. Didn't take Lucy through the famous big Redwood drive-through tree. She wouldn't fit, with the Westie top:(
this is in sequoia national park.
When we got to the border with OR we decided we needed a break from windy hilly roads, and drove inland to See Crater Lake...OOOOHHHHH How BEAUTIFUL!!! Even though the road was lined with 2-3 feet of snow Rubbachicken still liked the view, though he didn't fail to complain about it!!
On our way up, we stopped at a fish hatchery, with fish ladders... They were sorting them as they came in to the hatchery up the ladders from the ocean, after the sorting process they then release them to rivers around OR for spawning. VEY COOL to watch:)
we then went to talk to the people fishing on the banks of the river, and one of them GAVE us his catch of the day!!! (he said he had 15 in his freezer!!!)
So here we are with a 10 pound freshly caught salmon....
we quickly fillet it, and since we didn't have ice and there was plenty of snow on the ground... we filled our cool-box with snow and laid the freshly fillet salmon on our snow... we thought we were SO clever:)
we spent the weekend in Portland, then Headed up to Tacoma WA. for the 4th of July festivities:) The next week was one BBQ after the next, with NO rest for the wicked! we stuffed ourselves silly!!! we spent a whole day walking around Seattle, with http://www.seattlefreewalkingtours.org/ SO WORTH IT if you are going to Seattle!!!
Pike St market was a wonder of smells, sights, and sensations!FUN!!!
visited Mt. Rainier, spent a beautiful overnight at the visitors center base of mountain.
on our way back from the mountain, we spent an afternoon at the LaMay family car foundation. We are now Quazy famous on their page:) they have over 500 Vintage, restored and waiting to be restored cars and they give you a private tour!!! AWESOME!
We then took a week drive around the Olympic Peninsula, winding our way through Lavender fields, Raspberry picking, and Beautiful landscapes. Though it was too chilly to go into the water in the beaches.
we drove along the Colombia river parallel to OR. and crossed over down river, where peaches, nectarines Cherries and apricot orchards were dominating the sides of the roads as well as vineyards:) yum! The roads all over OR and WA are LINED with WILD BLACKBERRIES! this is the time to be there FOR SURE!!!
The OR coast was MY favorite! PRETTY! though most of the time covered in fog, the beaches are accessible, and beautiful! What a drive! Though the skies were grey most of the time and the roads covered in fog, it was STILL worth it!
By this time Rubbachicken was sick of the Grey and Fog and wanted sunshine... so we made our way to the high way and hightailed it out of OR and back to SUNNY CA, Back to Mountain View... Where we have friends who have a POOL!!!
And here we are...

We are in the bay area, and after a week of just "hanging low", visiting facebook, and Pixar, we have decided to move on...
So onward we go! heading north on 1 then 101 all the way to WA. If you have any recommendations.... any thoughts of things we aught to NOT miss...
or If you are on our way or slightly off our way, and want to meet up... please contact us:)
we are planning on trying to make the terrafin 14 bus run from Portland to Ventura on the 29th... if you are thinking of doing it too we would love to hear from you. and perhaps we can caravan on the run together.
See you soon:) _________________ lucy our westy
