I replaced my fuel lines today. It went WAY smoother than I imagined it would. Even the connections in front of the fire wall were easy to reach with my officially branded Oetikier crimp clamp pliers (I bought them when modifying my garden sprinkler system - who would guess those irrigation suppliers were VW fans).
SO, at the end of the job I hooked up the pressure gage, pumped it up to a bit over 40 psi (clamped off the return line) and waited 15 minutes. No drop in pressure. Sweet. I hit the pressure release on the gage, squirted some gas into a jug and went to pull the gage off of the "T". YOU should take a second to look at what the gage is reading. I didn't.
Yanked that hose off and there was an instant gas geyser inside my Westy. It was like someone was pi$$ing gas straight up onto my headliner. Luckily I had rags handy. Wifey also happened to stroll into the garage in time for me to say "RUN get some soapy water".
I'm really REALLY impressed how un-gas-like the van smells right now. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |
