By far the best for me personally was the complete original 1958 356 Porsche tool roll found in a 1963 23 window walkthru bus. Under a pile of parts between the middle seat and the front seats. As soon as I saw the material I knew what it was, amazingly I owned a 58 356 Cab that needed a tool roll, some things are meant to be!

Also, I had purchased a 21 window with factory safaris, that was sitting at a hotel near Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. The owner was a pilot, tracking him down between flights was a pain in the a#$. I drove the bus for a few years before I was talked out of it by a Air Force pilot. The first thing he did was have base security check the bus for contraband....sure enough, weed behind the front kick panels and rear door panels. Most likely there long before the airline pilot, certainly wasn't mine Smile

Strange thing but not found in buses.

It is an 1800s' organ pump but I wanted to post it because it has the same firing order as our engines.

I think the drug thing is pretty common I bought a 66 bus out of Missouri and it had the remains of a joint in the rear ashtray. My buddy scored a nice Hazet round tool kit out of '73 bug that he cleaned out. Go figure that you'd find something like that in a late model bug.

Found two white tin cans with black writing that were military issue water. They are still unopened to this day. They were in a 60 westy sitting in the parched Arizona desert. The water inside has just got to be foul and rusty as all hell. Imagine all the thirsty plants and animals that could have used that water to survive, but they just couldn't grip the pull tab. I got my 66 13 window dlux from an "artist" in New Orleans. After driving it back to Florida I started noticing a smell about it. Turns out that the "artist" had skinned an animal to make a rug or whatever and never prepared it right so the smell was actually ROTTING FUR!! I'll never forget that smell.

My '61 westy sat for 10 or 12 years before I got it, and when the tow-truck driver was putting the chains on it, he found a craftsman ratchet with an 11mm socket up on top of the rear torsion bar. The thing is rusted solid, but one of these days I'm going to take it into sears, and claim the warranty on it! The ratchet is totally old school....maybe late '60s early '70s? I totally thought it was a pipe when he first pulled it out.

In my most recent bus, we found a complete new campstove with propane! That was sweet. Also a dartboard in with the spare tire. And a small toy surfboard that I built into a lamp.

In a previous bus, I found an envelope of pictures behind the kick panel. Sadly none were of the bus, but I could tell one of the people was the PO...there was a cylinder head on the TV set! Smile

Rubber gloves, lots of 'em. What's up with that, Lind???

Best thing? a pair of extra tailights, complete, under the front seat of a '59 kombi I bought for $250.

Wasn't in a bus but just last month we ranacross a 2 foot long double headed dildo laying on the side of the road where we were working. Bet those girls were bummed when they got to their camping site without their friend.

Saluzzo- The Westy had no wheel wells so I had to make it disappear really quick. You know what I mean, right? It had a NICE original tent, ambulance fan (mango too), and perfect spoons in it that had to stay with me. I felt like LESTER HAYES of the RAIDERS with that stuff sticking to my hands like I had STICKEM all over them! PORCO DUE!

about 13 years ago I bought a nice og paint mango and beige grey 60 standard micro from an old farm lady in Barstow, Ca. The old lady sold it to me for $25. It was stored full of old goodwill clothing. She was all about helping the needy. Anyways, she told me to come back in a week and pick it up because her cat just had kittens in it.
The following week, we hauled it off and the clothes were mostly gone but alot of them were still in there. It stank really bad though. She had left 1 kitten behind and it died funking up the whole inside. We used a shovel and shoveled out the old clothes and decomposed kitten with maggots somewhere in the desert between Barstow and Victorville.
I thought I scored cuz I resold the bus 2 weeks later for $125. You live and learn.

In my westy I found a bunch of coins, pens, a '60's kids whistle, a AAA belt up badge a whole lot of nut shells behind the petrol tank where something had been nesting, also found a load of weird insect cocoons and a live .22 bullet, highly illegal here in Blighty. Oh and today (after two years of ownership) I found a tyre iron under the front seat and a licence plate year sticker bag. Shocked

Dug my bus out of a garage that had so much crap piled around it I couldn't tell what kind of bus it was. When I finally got inside it (DD walkthrough panel) it had 4 trashcans worth of 60's and 70's porn. Man that shit back in the day was nasty. Most of the pages were stuck together, I imagine it was 20 year old baby batter. Cool bus though.

My other good one was my first bus a 65 21-window. Found about 25 spent 9mm shells in it. The dude I got it from was kindof a gangsta, wonder if thats why he was selling it, so I would get the retalitation.

I bought a 1961 Westy Hatchtop from a 88 year old guy who goes to church with my Dad. When I got the Bus home and was cleaning out some of the junk inside I found a brown paper bag with a empty bottle of Schnapps and the absolute nastiest porn video I have ever seen. That is saying a lot as I am no rookie when it comes to porno. I imagined the old guy getting bothered with the "old lady", hopping in the Bus, running down to the liquor store, on over to the F St. Book Store, and back to the garage for a little "peace and relaxation". All at the young age of 88 years old! All of this from a upstanding RELIGIOUS old guy! Too funny...
