Anyone able to identify this tool? Can't find anything about it, whether its part of another tool or if this is even VW to begin with...
Came with a bunch of other Matra or similar VW tools, some aircooled and some early Rabbit tools
Says "US 067" on the backside

Happy 2025 toolaholics.
Forgot to update some new additions late last year. Pretty much rounding out the bench mounted tooling I need for the time being
As purchased, came out of a long time Vw business that closed a few years ago.
The value compressor tool was one I was looking forward to as I've not owned one previously.
How it's currently sitting
I've finally sourced the chemicals to re finish the steel components in the "blued" finish, but yet to have the chance to try them.
I also have to make a replac pin to correct this interesting repair
I won't bother you with too many photos of the the 313 mount and crank holding tool.
The later being the revision to do 40hp onwards and the 313 being the other casting style. I'm sure someone knows more about era details for that change
I have to make up some pieces for instance the tension handle for the 313 and then go through the small pile of tooling once I have this blueing process nailed. _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.

There's VW310 and VW310a. They're different. 310a incorporates the 40hp platform.

I had several made from those drawings.
I'm 175cm. They're for small humans, before 1950's steroids and over eating....

A photo would help, but if those two removable pins are located about a foot or so below the 313 head of the tool, they are for attaching two optional long metal arms and at the end of each arm a Y-shaped metal yoke which would support the mounting of a transaxle bellhousing to the 313 yolk and the two "Y" shaped yolks at the ends of the arms would then support the ends of the axles. A manual photo of the add-on accessory #643 transaxle support arms and yokes:
The long arms and yokes are a fairly rare option which I happen to have on my 313 engine stand. Adding that optional arm and yolk set allows your engine stand to service both engines and transaxles. A very cool optional tool... Mine for your perusal...

grind it off.
Paint code is RAL7031. Earlier tools had RAL7032.

Anywho, finally after nearly 5 years of ownership/ procrastination, my matra 308 is free from the 'C' channel someone thought needed to be welded to it.
Here is is when I first bought it, and took off most of the blue paint.
Notice the 'C' channel welded to the side.
Here's how it stands currently. (HAHAHA get it?)
Does anyone know how I can remove the remaining welded sections of 'C' channel? I'm trying not to ruin the original steel, and given the welded bit is nearly 10mm thick, a grinder may not be the most efficient way to do it. But at this point a whole lotta grinding disks might be my only option. Ideally I need a way to cut it down, and finish off with the grinder. |

This is a new old stock (NOS) factory tool kit designed for maintaining early VW industrial engines. Most of the tools still have their Cosmoline coating. This one is a rare version designed exclusively for 25hp and 36hp engines. These kits contain the most likely needed tools for field service of early industrial engines.
This one is earlier than the ones that have been pictured in the gallery. The others have additional tools for 40hp and newer engines as well. It is stamped 1965 inside the lid versus 1966 like the others. I am not sure if this was a Matra part number, or a production year?

That's a love bit of kit, and if you paid the 40euro listed price it was a good bargain.
it's of zero help- but I see the WB and think Warren&brown as they make Torque wrenched- maybe they did a calibration on it at some point?
I would suggest the handle stampings would be to label it for a shop, or even a trolley or set number across multiple work stations.
Keep in mind Matra used to make general high quality tooling not just VW group tooling.
WB might also stand for something in German or French that wouldn't even cross my mind. _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.

Holy crap! Thanks "Fishynos72" for the photo of that small end bushing puller! I just checked my tool collection and found that I actually have #212A !!! I thought it looked a bit familiar...

Hey, thanks for the reply about my #214B tool set. I've never used it yet. It would be cool to search YouTube to see if there is any videos of someone using the #214 tool set to both check rods for straightness, ream bushings and then using it to straighten out a slightly bent connection rod! Do you know the tool number (or have a photo) for the bushing removal tool you suggested. I'll have to keep an eye out for that one! Thanks!

Almost identical to the assortment in my kit.
Definitely has some double ups and later additions, but it's hard to know what originally came in the kit as the tool listings suggest it's sparse so the dealership could order what they need.
It's actually a very well thought out tool for the job, and you appear to have everything there to straighten rods and ream new bushes.
Reamers can still be purchased new through Ludwig Hunger in Germany.
A nice addition is the bush removal tool. _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.

Here is the VW 214 set that I have... It might be missing a part or two or have too many collars or parts, who knows? It may be a updated kit that started out as a #214 kit, and may have been supplemented later with updated later pieces making it an #214"A", "B" or ? set? Here are a few photos:
