@ Bleyseng
Drives like sh*t without the swaybar, driving mountain roads and twistbacks, you'll need to slow down.
Luckily, some of the leaves in the front suspension broke over time, so I was prety much riding on the bump stops. Of which one ruptered over time but we carried replacements.
Other than that, the left rear shock is bleeding just a little bit. Had that one installed prior to heading of for beijing, so I took a fair amount of punishing! Great product.
And we broke a clutch cable somewhere in Brazil, easy fix as well.

Some more pictures from the Bolivian salt flats
Vredestein Comtracs, awesome tyres! These are from the same set of 6 we used to drive to Beijing. No punctures in well over 40.000 km.
Souvenir from the US works as valid ID . Guess Elvis isn't world famous after all.
First match in Salvador
Copacabana, Rio!
New york...
...Rio! 26.044 km on the speedo, works out to about 27900 actual km added to our Camper Special engine. Still running just fine!
Still looks fine, apart from the sway bar missing
Small leak going here... but nothing too bad.
The bus is now back into a container, on it's way from Rio back to Holland. Time to prepare for another adventure . _________________ 1978 T2b ASI Riviera Plan I // Camper Special with MegaSquirt Injection & Ignition // 091 with 5.14 R/P and Peloquins LSD

Do you have any more photos of your swing away rear spare tire mount? I've been strategizing how I want to make one as well. What sort of latch do you have for the swing arm to attach to the body with? |
PM me your email address and I'll mail you some photos.

Empi... It's a fine unit though, does it's job very well. Maybe it's not made to drive over corrugated roads for thousands of miles. I'll think we'll just replace it with the same brand.

Actually ours had a little bend in it and now it snapped. Never had problems with the sway bar before. We fitted adjusters in the front beam, so we have a little lift from those and larger tyres. However, because of all the sh*t we're carrying, it's probably not much higher than a stock bus.

Hey all,
I just got back from South America, my brother is driving onwards to Rio. About a 1000 miles to go.
We had a few small hiccups by now. One of the axle boots got torn up. Strange thing, since we replaced all of them before we left. Maybe something struck the boot and started a tear. Anyway, we always carry a complete spare axle, so we swapped it out.
The original wiring to the fuel pump decided to stop working at an altitude of 14.000 ft. We wired it with a relay switched by the ignition and off we went.
Somewhere half way Peru our outer left front wheel bearing started to make some sounds, so we replaced it before damage would get bad enough to damage the axle.
And our heavy duty sway bar broke... It just snapped on a dirt road. There was rust on the inside of the fracture, so it's probably a fatigue crack that developed over time.
Here's some pictures I snapped with my phone.

Camping on the beach

Approaching the Andes
Border to Bolivia, spot the bus
Snapped sway bar
