I doubt its a Mercedes truck since the guy who we bought it from owned a junk yard in NY. VW came to america in 49 and sold only two units, I'm having trouble finding any information on when Mercedes started selling after WW2 to America. but hey could be right maybe it was imported some time after that like in the 70's and and left to rot, I never saw the truck its difficult to find information on Mercedes trucks as well.
But you could be correct, it didn't cross my mind that someone could have imported it after the stigma against Germany and the war had faded.
It looks exactly like the white one on the right of this listing http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1633940 just with different connectors, back other than that is the same. mine measures very slightly under 3.75 inches just like his in his listing.
the angle of my photo may have been poor but when I hold up my horn button to the one on the right he is currently selling it looks uncanny but hes not sure what the bigger ones he own's fits so it could be Mercedes buttons?
I'm just hoping it turns out to be VW or I'm going to have to find the one guy in America with a 40's Mercedes Truck
EDIT: Just wanted to apologize for not doing proper research finding what would be the correct forum for this subject. |

What is the diameter?
The front does look like a 51-52 Barndoor Deluxe horn button.
The back does not look correct for a Barndoor Bus or any VW.
VWs don't have 2 connections on the back like that.
Barndoor style (black in this pic)
Standard Split Bug
Note back shape too - different from your button _________________ How to Post Photos

Why do you doubt it's for a Mercedes truck? Lack of a three point star on it?
It looks a little like a barndoor bus button (and I mean slightly). I'd ask this question in the general threads where it might get more exposure. It is not a '58-'67 beetle button. _________________

Hello, my father and I picked up this horn button at a swap meet can anyone identify it, I looked through the classifieds here and can't find a back that looks like this one. It says "mercede" on the rear of it in marker, but I don't believe it could be a Mercedes, since it looks very similar to a VW
