Anyone use this one for a T4 Eurovan camper (mine is 1999) |

On an EVW, we replaced our original tent with Poptop World's tent, in black. (Not sure who makes theirs.) They did a good job installing, and we like it a lot. _________________ Learned to drive in a '67 Splitty.

Acrylic much better than a new oe canvas? For ~400. |
Can't get the OE canvas from Winnebago anymore, so you are sorta stuck, unless you get a tentmaker to make you one. The OE fabric is a cotton duck with Sunforger treatment - far superior to anything else, IMHO.
Some of the acrylic ones do NOT have a zip out front window - which is handy for accessing anything in the over the cab storage area when inside the van.
I have a poptop heaven acrylic one as a spare - it is OK. The fabric is really thin compared to OE. _________________ David

The invoice for the top denotes two separate payments. One is for the poptop and shipping from Germany to Colorado. That is what I paid for.
The second payment is for installation. So one could argue that the matter of installation is separate from ownership. But I do not physically possess the top--it's at Cole's shop (Cavevan).
Given what I know about how busy he is, I would think he'd be fine with letting go of one poptop install opportunity. But that's just speculation.

My repair is still holding strong.. The paint i put on was in haste originally and has flaked off the top but still looks good. Repair looks as good as it dod on day one. Sill lives outside sadly.
On the top you are selling. Do you have to have them install it? _________________ 1995 EVC |

FYI I ordered a Reimo LWB top through CaveVan but I no longer want to install it. CaveVan (Cole) has it now (June 2024) at his Colorado shop.
I am selling the top if anyone is interested--link to my classified ad.

I am new to The Samba and am looking for information on poptop conversion for a 95 Eurovan (Winnebago). I am aware of Colorado Camper Van's vertical pop top and am hoping that there are other outfitters that do the same thing (and hopefully cheaper!). Thanks for any info anyone can provide. |

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with aftermarket pop top manufacturers other than Reimo? There are a couple in the UK: Austops.co.uk and poptoproofs.co.uk that advertise multiple different options for the long wheel base T4. Poptoproofs offers a model 30447 that goes vertical, similar to the Colorado Camper vans mod but without the motors (and, hopefully, without the ~$13K price).
Unfortunately, neither of these advertise a US distributor.
My 2001 EVC has a couple of lateral cracks that extend the full width of the pop top. I've effected temporary repairs using chemical welding. The top is very buckled, presumably due to extensive desert and high-altitude sun exposure. The buckling makes it very hard to patch given the multiple stress planes. Therefore I'm interested in reasonably priced replacements.
Thanks |
If you want to get the price down, perhaps you could organize a group buy? I would imagine having 4 or more tops shipped to one location will be considerably cheaper than onesies. |

Cole Ford mounted the track for me so I don't know the details. You might try asking him if he remembers.
I would have done a MaxFan but they were backordered.

Jonathan, would it be possible to post a picture of your Yakima track on the Reimo roof. Curious where you mounted this on the roof?
Do you know the length of the bolts that went through the roof, how thick is the roof?
Any thoughts of putting in a roof fan like MaxFan?
Thanks for sharing and it has inspired me to get the Reimo roof on my 1999 to be installed next week.
Thanks.

Yeah! I didn't get to go on as many trips as I liked this year, but every trip I took I am glad to have this new top instead of the problem prone Winnie top. Jonathan: I never quite figure out the extra mounting holes behind the gas strut on your top, what are those for? roof rails?
Have you figured out your lighting yet? |
Yes, I have Yakima roof rails installed. My intention is to put a lightweight canoe on the roof.
For lighting I'm using a rechargeable mini LED camping lantern:

FWIW, I had the same question re: price. I'm curious what these run even just as a broad price range. Hard product cost and also installed. |
2600 Euro on website
10 hour install maybe?
Fudge. Canโt believe I missed this. On the crack repairs up thread.
Anytime you have a crack you want to find the end ( look with a magnifying glass!) and drill a hole asa crack-stopper. The hole spreads out the shear force of the crack into a larger, symmetric area so that it doesnโt propagate.
The same would apply anywhere your crack changed direction and left a sharp point. Smooth that out, fill with material. _________________ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐ ๐ ๐ |

Any updates on the new top? |
Seems good so far! The extra interior storage space above the cab with the top up is nice. Creaking and rattling is significantly reduced.
