On December 9, year?.., archaeologists announced the discovery of a luxurious 1st-century AD Roman pleasure barge off Alexandria, Egypt, a rare find preserving a large section of its hull, highlighting daily life in Roman Egypt, while other recent finds include a massive Bronze Age city in Kazakhstan, a Roman basin near Rome, and a 2,400-year-old sacrificial complex in Russia, showcasing diverse global archaeological discoveries.

Haven't heard that before and couldn't find any articles to support this. Do you have anything?

I guess you missed it Wink

I felt the same when Russia attacked Ukraine. Too similar to Nazi aggression, a grab for land, raw materials, etc. So much of Ukraine destroyed, Russia thought it would be easy and quick.

It's too bad that some have not learned from history...

Yes a sad day in history that led to even more casualties and the involvement of very many brave Americans and other allies.

I鈥檝e been to the Arizona memorial and despite not being an American I became totally overwhelmed by the sombre, moving experience. The silence as they say was deafening. It reminded me of the sacrifices so many paid for our freedom and in that moment of reflection I paid homage to my father in law who fought so gallantly against the Japanese in New Guinea and my two brothers in law who fought in Vietnam alongside the US.

Yet the parallels are uncanny with Ukraine. Unprovoked attack by a dictatorship. Promises of safety and security by the eventual aggressor.

Imagine however instead of eventual defeat of Japan that the US would have faltered and had to relinquish Hawaii after that heinous attack on Pearl Harbour and break off alliances with other of the Allies and reduce its capacity to maintain a fighting force. Let鈥檚 not let history repeat itself.

Russo-Japanese War 1904ish from what I gather was about Russia gaining control or Korean peninsula...
Then after that war the next war was Korea..

Russia was our allies when Japan was attacking Pearl harbor...

Wars go on and on and on I remember in the '70s when the Kurds and over and over and over..

My Papa came back from Vietnam and s Embarassed aid the war was over rubber trees and he gave me an American Express card for my graduation with a green condom in it that said don't leave home without it....lmao... Oops I did!

What gets me is why don't we just all get along and put a helium in our condoms and tires and just have a good year day! Lmao

Please fill in the blanks for those scoring at home.

Many years ago I worked with an Austrian chef named franz who was a young boy in austria during the war years. When I asked him if he understood what was going on then, he said yes and added that when those people (nazis) told you how things were to be, you did not argue with them

^Which illustrates why they say with dictators "at least the trains run on time". They don't, but no one dares complain.

84 years ago Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7.
Roosevelt declared war on Japan (only) on Dec. 8.

Dec. 11 Hitler declared war on USA, so USA entered the European war. The following clip was colorized. Look at the unanimous clapping from the audience - either ALL agreed, or were totally afraid not to clap vigorously !!!

I was in the 3rd grade. The bus driver made the announcement. It was the only bus ride I remember being in total silence. You could hear a pin drop.

Our class was watching a PBS science program on the TV (Pittsburgh) and they broke into the broadcast stating JFK had been shot/wounded. A few minutes later the principal came on the public address system and announced that JFK was dead.

In 1962 I was selling peanut brittle door-to-door, and JFK was traveling from Wheeling to Pittsburgh, and we broke away and lined up as his motorcade went by (open convertible).
