Looks like RetroSound is the way to go however most shops around here, (Massachusetts), will only install their radios. I don't know of any that will install something they didn't sell.

I just installed a RetroSound Radio in my 74 Super.
It looks stock and has bluetooth support.
It also has 2 Aux ports on the rear, along with a USB port the I mounted just under the ash tray.
The knobs are a little to far away from the face plate, but I think that
is because of my mistake, not the radio itself.

I don't know about your '79, but my '74 Super Beetle sedan took a regular din Alpine am/fm cd with MP3 front plug in (and some other plug in I can't remember just now).

They install a cage at the front to hold it in. Works great. No fitment problems.

Are there any front mounted aftermarket radios available for a 1979 SB vert? Looking for simple AM/FM and maybe Aux input. Most I'm finding are rear mounts.
