In this market people buy what the advertisements tell them to buy based mostly on "one upping" the Jones's. Car manufacturers are also not going to push economy cars because the profit margin per car is lower. It works here because people in North America have more money than brains. In other parts of the world financial necessity enhances common sense and that marketing strategy is not nearly as effective. They enjoy some pretty sweet economy cars that we don't even know exist.
Put the blame where it makes you feel good but the fact of the matter is that governments and manufactures are just as much to blame as the consumers for our lack of choice in the market. The bare fact is that no one needs 4 tones of gas guzzling 4X4 to ferry one person 8 blocks to work and back. Then complain bitterly about air quality and expect someone else to fix it! We are our own worst enemy. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

I want a plane simple economy car without a lot of fluff and lipstick. They are just not available for sale anymore at the dealers and I refuse to believe that the public doesn't want that. I talk to people too you know... I'm not the only one!
Yes I would buy a little VW pickup in a heart beat if they were to bring them in! |
Sorry that's not going to happen, and it's not the companies fault, or the government's.
The rest of the United States want's to drive around in SUVs.
VW spent years not selling cars in the US because the German's insisted they knew better than the American Consumer.
VW is just about ready to drop 2 more SUVs on the American Market this year. _________________ Good Luck

Oh ya! South America is full of Ford Rangers and Chevy S10s all diesels that we saw. I'm thinking as I saw them "What the heck? Do we have leprosy or what that these nice little trucks were never offered to us?" 90% of North American pickup owners could do everything they now do with these! |
Amen and Amen, I wish ford and chevy would bring something back along the lines of a Ranchero/El Camino again.... love my 87 elky... but i dont want to use it as a truck anymore. _________________ If you have any questions about Forged ICON 4032 VW pistons just shoot me a line. |

Smart aleck SWA pilot gets on the PA after we take off on a flight from Burbank to San Jose (CA). Says, "The weather in Phoenix is 65, clear skies with a light wind out of the west.... long pause... and if you care about this report you are ON THE WRONG AIRPLANE!"
This was apt the time reports of truck pilots were more common... was he really joking? |

Once when I was working for an airline as a loadmaster in Phoenix, we took a delay on a flight because a passenger needed to be removed right before we pushed the aircraft out of the gate. The aircraft was going to Ontario, California. The passenger thought she was going to Ontario, Canada. She must have thought she was so smart when she bought a ticket all the way to Canada for $95.00.

Someone on this site in another thread reprimanded me for saying these were VWs. He said that Toyota built them for VW but I just talked to a fellow in Argentina - and I looked up up on the "net" and that is FALSE! They are built by VW of Brazil. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

Well now lets not jump to conclusions, there are several Stockton's in Canada, the country code for Canada is CA, the poster may of neglected to mention the Province, but like the USA the crowd North of the our border did not get that VW either, so it will have to be a visitor from the South. |

Ca. = California, USA
