Glad it all worked out. What kind of car lift is that? _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

All I can say is I was blessed, By the VW Engineer's.
I went out and started looking at what I was going to have do to fix the offset of the trans.
Disconnected all the mounts except the front trans, cut a piece off a gas tank mount, for the starter. and noticed that by turning the right mount backward it fit so moved the drivers side and long and behold IT"S Fixed.

I don't think so but I will check thanks,.,,
went out to BBQ some chicken. I used the time to recheck the axles, I had them on the right sides so will have to move the middle Mount. |

Type 3 automatics have a long and short axle. Are yours just reversed? _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

DAM, DAM, DAM. Enough to race off a Piss horse.
I tried to start the motor yesterday and I had forgotten to hook up the CV shafts, no big deal, motor started and quit. passenger side CV spun and pulled the power wire loose. That is when I found the big problem.
When I made the center mount for the trans I lined up and centered the trans. and made the two downriggers for the rear motor mounts. I though I did a good job,
BUT,
I forget I am dealing with an Automatic Trans, not the 4 speed.
The 4 speed has equal length Axle shafts, not so with the Automatic. Now I have to cut it all out and move everything about 1/2 to 3/4 " to the right as you can see CV's will not work as is.
drivers side
Passengers side

Well I got it back on the rack and squared up and new side peace's in, installed seat mounts and fuel tank mounts. cleaned up rebuilt all the brakes F+R all new hard and soft lines, set in and new Master moved the spring pack to the top tube so the weight is pushing on the ball joints instead of pulling.. I had gotten a Flee Bay 8 gallon fuel tank but soon found out that its to big without cutting the rear firewall and moving it into the passenger compartment. so ended up getting two 2.5 gallon to keep under the body and over the torsion bars . still mocking everything up now working on the steering I will have to offset and lower the steering column to the left. FUN FUN FUN.

Well I got the pan cut again and welded in the two pieces I had taken out, the wheel base is now 92.5 from 80 .
I plated the bottom because of the large gap at the left of the PCC logo.
Its nice to have something that can handle the heavy work |

Well after all of the honey dues, fence repairs and other stuff. putting all new brakes, tires, marker lights on the 5th wheel, needed work on the truck and 2 weeks on the road and my 18 mouth Pet scan, it came back with no sign of the cancer. I finely decided on what I needed to do to the body to get more leg room. I did what I did not want to do I cut the body in half, got ahold of a 68 front firewall and got the body mounted, now I have to cut the pan in half again and put back the tube I cut out so the wheel base will be back to about 93" from 80

I got the motor and trans back out so I could start fitting the body, set it on and my big fear came true. The seats are way to close to the peddles.
So I have decided I will cut the rear bulkhead out and move it back 4 to 6 inch's.
I got those seats for another buggy, and when I went to install them They were to big. other things happened and it just went on the back burner. then the cancer in 2018.
I found the receipt with one of the seats and just about Shi% the price was 152.45 + 9.50 oversize charge that was in 2012 they are now 254.00 + at Summit. and you cant get yellow anymore. |
I love those yellow seats.... They will really make the interior stand out. _________________ 1966 Manx clone (possibly a Joe Poty Enterprises) named SANDY. '70 to '73 1300 cc w/1600 DP heads, twin carbs and headers |

It will make fitting the RZR Roll cage I found for 50.00 a lot easier to install.

I don't care what they say about Chemo Brain it does not go away, I lose track of time the most, and have a hard time thinking. that said. I did get some work on the pan started and the floor is laid out and tacked in.
I cut the outside lip off the pan and it lays on the 1x3. in a L shape the Body drops right into it.
the main steel from the shocks to the pan is 3.5x3.5x.25 heavy duty
I am thinking of cutting the cage off a old buggy I have that nobody around here will buy. and use it to save some time.
we got 21" in the last storm.
I did get the motor running. |

Well been a few weeks and no progress, I did order some pulleys so I can lift the body off the pan. I was going to go out today and install them but after my trip to Salt Lake to the cancer center for my 1 year check up. Sunday drive to SL, tests Monday and drive back Tuesday, Doctor appointment yesterday and a IVIG infusion. I woke up to 3 degrees and this.
So I will stay in and and make dog collars.
O and My Scans and test came back negative so the Cancer is still in remission and no sign of it. my February oncology visit, I was told come back in 4 months next Pet Scan will be in July. |

I got the Motor in and now for the fun part mockup.
I have all the room I need to make a frame and engine cage.
I plan on incorporating a full roll bar and side cages to the front end
and the Type3 Body mounts and the shock towers for mid mount
and the type 2 eng bar.

That is something to think about, on page 1 in the Pics that BL3Manx posted. you can see that the dash and steering wheel set way to far forward I will have to cross that bridge when I get there. |

Looks like you've achieved a good fit with body on pan.

You could use a separate panel, like what I built using a Fiero dash:
It puts knobs at fingertips and instruments located where easy to read:
Plus, it can be removed for work on bench:
