I’ve had to break them off before too.
Usually though, those were junk yard or back yard engines that sat in the elements for a few years. _________________ Volkswagen!

When the rubber mallet doesn't work, get a real hammer and get medieval with it. _________________ My cut in half and rebuild thread

Heat the case not cylinders, maybe put two studs thru opposite corners of cylinders and long bar between and try to twist to break bond? maybe less chance of breaking fins, check case drain plate, maybe all corroded and case junk, as was the last one I tore apart, busted cylinders and saved crank, rods and flywheel _________________ 73 Type 181

I'm thinking there's oxidation and electrolysis who ganged up to make your life hell.
Have you tried the ATF /acetone combo? I really can't think of anything special, like VWporscheGT3 said, a rubber mallet and patience, look out not to break fins. |

rubber dead blow. smack the cylinder all the way around, and then at about a 95 degree angle and they should come out. the piston isn't rusted solid in there right? _________________ If you have any questions about Forged ICON 4032 VW pistons just shoot me a line. |

I have a 36hp motor that we're trying to rebuild, but the cylinders are stuck solid in the case. Any tips on how to remove them? They've been soaked with WD40, heat has been used, nothing seems to help. Is there some kind of puller that can be used? _________________ --------------------------------------
