Wow, just saw this! Interesting to see all those design details that came together to form our iconic car. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

That would be a customized Low-Light Buick with period correct wide whitewall tyres. |

Hi Rome. That car I posted isn't mine, I had no pictures with the top up so I googled an image. Mines dark blue. With their tops down the Bentley looks like the big expensive brother of the Lexus.
BT , surprised I've never seen those prototype photos from that thread, and yes it looks a lot like the SC430 that came out in 2001 after the sc430 prototype/ show car was being shown a year earlier |

that design (I believe) was sold to Lexus by Karmann. It was a concept car back in '99. Here is a thread with pictures of the concept on page 3.

Have you thought about applying a 1/8" wide- or even thinner- grey or black pinstriping tape to the rear quarter panels and doors to mimic the graceful body crease from the Ghia? You could superimpose a photo of a Ghia's side over your car's photo, zooming in on the Ghia until the rear wheelwell opening and the door rear vertical edge line up with your 430, then seeing where the body crease would lie on the 430... Mark the horizontal straight line on the 430's door with a 2" masking tape edge, and use a "french curve" for the quarter panel's upper and lower crease curves.
When I first saw photos of the Bentley Continental GT for the 2003 model year, the rear quarter panel shape and crease immediately reminded me of our Ghias.

That Lexus is cool!
Just need to install a grab handle and we are done.

I think they might have been extrapolating to the production car— this clearly is a modified KG. Probably the prototype. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

The article says "resembles a VW Karmann-Ghia", but they should have just been clear and stated that it was an Electric KG. The only things that are different other then the engine is the tail lights, bumpers and rear fender wings.
Curious if VW would have taken this to court or if maybe they might have been actually a supporter?

I bought an sc430 because it reminded me so much of my Ghia. The proportions of the roof to body with its almost pillarless side glass and the shape of the rear glass as it flows into the elongated trunk that is shaped like the Ghia in a modern way. Designed 20 years ago but classic like the Ghia. Even when inside driving the dash reminds me of my lowlight, shaped like my glovebox and the vent looking like the ashtray. They even came two tone, oddly looking like the proposed Ghia concept design earlier in this thread.
