After ten years of covering my back on slow motorway journeys across the UK and Europe, I lost my faithful SLOW MOVING VEHICLE magnet in Venlo, Holland

Keith makes a pretty cool slow moving magnet and I am well pleased with it.
People did seem to stay back a bit more than normal and it is plenty visible.
I like this version because the text is larger and easier for folks to read.
It is really reflective, but unfortunately my night time photos didn't come out. |

We've bought two of Ollies and find them useful. Our first one got stolen. Our second one has cracked near edge of one triangle so you have to be really careful removing it. I agree, it is more reflective than some of the other cheaper knockoffs. |

I bought one of Ollies SMV magnets back when I got my bus on the road and I can attest to the fact that his is much higher quality then others on the market and his are noticably more reflective then the cheaper knockoffs. Thanks again Ollie for making this high quality part and not succombing to the desire to just make a dollar. _________________ 58 Coral Red ragtop(Diana's car)

How about the (potentially dozens of) people who are making exact copies of Ollie's design and undercutting his pricing? At least I was courteous enough to not try and pass myself off as him.
One more... from this thread's Bay Window Forum counterpart:

Hi Clara.
You are correct. I have seen slow moving vehicle signs on survey vehicles and such.
I can assure you I had never seen one on a bus before. The original design was a result of Kris just getting his Barndoor on the road and dropping me a line and asking if there was anything that could be done to make it more visible at night. I went over, made some measurements of the decklid and came up with the design, and the dry assembly of the different reflective vinyls. As you know the design was intended to take advantage of the space around the license indentation. I made the later version to clear the script on big hatch buses. You are 100% correct- I do not own the rights to the "Slow Moving Vehicle" concept. I also considered patenting the concept. But, patents are worthless if the owner choses not to defend them. I have enought to worry about and am not too fond of lawyers.
I am sure there are other people out there making cheaper versions and selling them for less. I am also quite sure that my price has turned some people away. But, in all honesty I am not catering to the person who is looking for the lowest-dollar item. Unfortunatley, with quality comes cost. My mags are both very expensive to produce in materials and very time consuming. But, they are also extremely high quality and are made from the best materials available. If used at night they can also give your vehicle an extra 1/4 mile of visibility. In the 100+ magnets that I have shipped out I have yet to hear of even one dissatisfied customer. |
But I guess if you're going to be an @$$... there's no convincing you otherwise.
EDIT: I have also made good on my promise to notify Ollie of what I'm doing. _________________ Visit the Vintage Volkswagen Parts & Tech Wiki today!

I specifically came up with my own design as to NOT rip anyone off. Besides, nobody else is doing custom signs... so it IS an original idea.
Also, if you scroll back a few pages you'll see this:

As you are a sign maker It makes no sense to purchase one from me. All I ask is that if you are going to begin selling them come up with your own design + concept so they are not confused with mine. |

I'm using one, and it does actually seem to help. I've noticed other drivers pull out to go around when they're much further back. Not nearly as many "close calls." |

I just bought a cutter and I'm thinking of making some of these.
Is there still a demand for them? Reflective vinyl is expensive and i'd like to gauge the market before I invest in material.
I've come up with a slightly different original design and I'm going to put together a non-reflective prototype tomorrow. |
I would be interested if they look good. |
