I’m case anyone wants to see a drive video of this car, it’s up right now on BaT. Gives you an idea of what a Ghia with a Porsche engine can do.

Well, it’s finally up and running and at my house to do the final detailing and polishing. We drove it 15 miles on the freeway from the shop to my house and it’s got a tall third, easily can go to 60mph and fourth almost acts like a fifth gear. Brakes great, and with all the sound deadening sprayed on the inside metal, it’s the quietest convertible Ghia I’ve ever driven.
The Porsche engine fits like a glove. The rear tin is completely fabricated, we have eight hours just into that but it looks factory I think. Which is of course the whole point of the project.
After I detail it we will put 300 miles on it to shake out any bugs and then list it on BAT.

Heard at nearly every show I've ever attended.

Well, it’s in.
This is the second time this year I’ve installed a Porsche 356/912 engine in a Ghia and could do a whole write up on it for those interested. But for this thread I’ll just say it’s a lot easier doing it in a later model car than early, the only modification necessary are the rear and front tins have to be trimmed as well as the side tins, and it’s crazy easy to install one, easier than a regular VW engine.
The biggest challenge for both cars has been the muffler. And here I discovered that an aftermarket 356A muffler is easier to fit than an original A muffler.
Anyway, it’s in and I think looks like it belongs there.
It’s a 1720cc using 86mm big bore pistons and cylinders from AA. Reproduction brand new Solex carburetors, stock for European market 031 distributer with Pertronix electronic ignition module and coil, electric fuel pump, C crank, 912 spec cam, 912 heads, 912 rods, everything balanced. Stock 1600 engine put out 104hp, I imagine this one puts out a bit more.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
We are in that phase of the project where more time is spent than things accomplished it seems. But nonetheless progress is being made. The dash is finally complete. We decided the factory steering wheel doesn’t work with the overall aesthetic and so ordered a beautifully done Vintage Aircooled Parts custom wheel which is very similar to an optional Les Leston Porsche 356 wheel, but better made in my opinion. Since this is a performance build we opted to go simple on the sound system and stuck with the original AM/FM radio and a Retrosound speaker under the dash. We also bought a matching Vintage Speed shifter with a ball socket bushing for tighter shifting.
In the rear, we installed an anti sway bar set up for improved handling.
The long block is done on the Porsche 912 spec engine. We used 86mm big bore pistons, 912 heads, 912 spec cam, C crankshaft, new 12 volt flywheel designed to run a stock VW clutch pack, 12 volt small body 912 generator, powder coated tins and a stock replacement muffler to get the Porsche growl.

Spring is approaching fast, so we’ve been back in it. The top mechanism is all straightened out and installed per workshop specs. New seal in the rear window and we tossed the top on the frame just to see how the color looks with the car.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
TMI’s “Red” vinyl. VW used it in late Beetles. It’s a nice rich color. Fun fact is TMI will use any of their smooth vinyls for Ghia door cards, so you are not limited to the narrow range of Ghia colors if you want stock pattern but a more lively color. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!
