have just seen this intriguing post on marketplace...
Hello. I am looking to loan my beloved Austin A30 to any genuine enthusiast or mechanic who wishes to โtinker aroundโ with her for the summer. There is no loan charge but I take a ยฃ400 deposit which is returned at the end of the term of the loan plus anything spent on improving her! (This includes labour charge). There is a very simple โgentlemanโs agreementโ between lender and borrower.
Ideal for someone who does not want to commit to buying a classic car but who has the time and desire to play with one for an agreed period of time. If this sounds interesting to you, please get in touch and we will discuss the opportunity.
Thanks for your interest.
wonder what happens at the end of summer and the car is in bits or has had a roof chop and rat rodded...? _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

CL is was better to use.
You can search for something between 800-1500 as many times as you want....say, Honda, Toyota, Nissan all at your price range. W.MP, you have to type it in each time....then, half the time you type it in, the numbers change and dance around.
I don't know how MP sorts it's adds, but ain't logically. They are usually all jumbled up. If you do the same search twice, you get 2 different results.
What the heck is it w/people not wanting to give out information? I want to talk to somebody....
If they sound like a BSer, I'll ask, where are you at? They usually can't answer that as they don't have the time to read my add, or they can't find it.
I went to Denver for 2 dif things (250 miles)....the Yamaha Warrior, I talked to the guy on the phone and he sounded good. The night before he said, ya, I can meet....about 3p. I made my 1st meet and then asked the guy, where to I go....nothing. WTF, fake add? Did he already sell it....what BS there is on MP. |

people are the problem, with just about everything.
everything is someone's fault.
some fool begged to be the person chosen to collect a bunch of lego pieces l have no need for.
a bunch of folk asked for them, this first fool begged better than everyone else l guess, 48 hours later those lego pieces are still where he was told to collect them from.
now lets see if the second person who pleaded for them, has the good manors to get off their a$$es and come collect them. _________________ markswagen {mobile mechanic} san diego area all early VW's cared for.

Running cars sell much better than parts or projects. A video of it driving around really helps. Sure , plenty of lowballers and flakes as per usual. Meet up in a public space close to you. I drive em around if wanted, but I never allow test drives. Cash in hand , full price. Seems to work better than handing out addresses at the last minute. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Lately I'm getting people who don't want to buy the parts but ask for help fixing what they have. I don't mind helping them and I always tell them to check out this website but the last guy replied to my ad for a Weber carb and wanted to know where his PICT 34 idle adjust screw was located. _________________ '69 Beetle (pieces)

Heading out for the Okanogan this morning in search of some decent sized apple wood and and other hardwood suitable for turning. Just too cold here to grow much for hardwood trees. Box Elder and Birch in the coulees where there is a bit of run off is about all we get. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

Ooh! Apple and cherry. The stuff grows on trees at our place on Maple Avenue.
No, seriously. We have three huge cherries over there, 16' sawlogs by wide enough I'll need a log truck with a grapple to handle them.
After I liquidated my woodworking tools.
Saw a Parks planer on Marketplace...
One of the cherries shed a large branch during the winter storms. I blocked it up for our smoker.
Got a couple big dead branches on our apple trees. I'm going to leave those alone for now. One of the apples is a gnarly old thing that looks like it's barely hangin' in there. It will yield bags of pie apples towards the end of August.
None of that is goin' on Marketplace. Marketplace is a waste of time.

I just had a weird FB Marketplace transaction. I was in the big city for other reasons and someone was advertising apple wood firewood or wood for turning/hobby projects. I sent a message requesting hours of operation. "8 to 4" was the response. Sent another message that I would be there at 9:00 next morning. "I am very busy this week so can only meet you between 3 and 4 or on Saturday" Sent a message back that Saturday would work.
Saturday comes and I send a message that I will be there at 10:00. "Give me an hour heads up and ask for "Chris" so I gave him an hour and asked for an address. No reply. Meanwhile I had completely given up on the whole issue and gone on to other things.
10:30 I see an address and reply back that I had moved on and could not be there until later in the day. No response.
Turns out his address was only about 3 miles out of our way on the way home so we stopped in unannounced in the afternoon. Wow! A full scale firewood operation with huge buildings, machinery and I counted 4 employees running around and several customers loading firewood. Turns out his "apple wood" was nothing more than branch trimmings but Chris took me over to a pile of awesome cherry wood!
In the end it was a win especially the fact that Chris only charged 1/2 the price I was quoted by the owner! _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

For cars , Iโve pretty much take the strategy of driving them to the end, then scrapping the parts for the same $2000 runner value and getting the $300 net on the carcass for metal. Since I can haul myself, I donโt pay the tow fees
Exception is when a friend / family member needs basic wheels , then I just donate.
We are headed back to some severe used car inflation like Covid, thanks to the Orange Cheetoh Recession. I thought it would take until Q3 to hit, but heโs managed to accomplish it in only one quarter, well done there . _________________ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐ ๐ ๐ |

Yesterday I bought an aftermarket cruise control setup, new in the box, for about half of new cost. Universal setup that I can install on my recent Chevy project.
Last night, I cooked some smokies on a nearly new $20 gas grill I bought of FB a few weeks back. Then, I listed a cruiser bike I bought for $20 at a yard sale last weekend. This morning, I rode it to the grocery store to meet the guy that was really excited about it. He handed me $75, I walked inside to get some half and half and some discounted meat, and walked home.
Plenty of FB flakes out there, but recently things have been working out great! |
Yep. Just like Craigslist used to be. You have to put with dreamers, tire kickers, low ballers and flakes, but eventually someone shows up with cash and buys your stuff. It's just part of the package. _________________ The consequences of your decisions should not be confused with fate. |

I had been a good member of Ebay since the early 90's, but now, they can kiss my ass. |
I've been done with FeeBay since they came up with the "managed payment" system you're talkiin' about. First it didn't sit right when sellers couldn't leave buyers feedback. Then they went with the full- on "Customer is always right." system.
eBay became a bazaar for imported crap similar to Canal Street in Manhattan. Canal Street was great when they were the electronics surplus district and I don't mean Crazy Eddie's. I never knew what I'd find including crazy recording studio surplus. There was a metal supplier, a plastic supplier...
Now Chinatown extends from The Brooklyn Bridge to The Holland Tunnel. It would be great if I could get lo mein ten blocks closer to Jersey.
Guess I gotta dine on Second Avenue.
