I do want it but that is 3900 km and 36 hours one way from here! There is also a possibility that on arrival I might find that it's a rust bucket full of Bondo!

I did end up putting in extra air vents at the wheel wells. The cover can be easily adjusted to whatever size vent is desired.

That's a good example- but no way I will ever own a car without a basic 1600. My '78 westy was too much frustration.I have lots of extra parts also.
Im seeking out of the ordinary: bug-based, kit or diy, not too crusty, nothing convertible or leaky, finished or not.

I like this one: https://www.facebook.com/share/15jxGCpoY8/?mibextid=kL3p88

May be a BGW as well. I like the stance, big rear meats and unusual front end. If I didn't have a dozen cars I would be on it.

Ah yes! Sell it in black primer so it covers the janky bodywork! Hopefully the mechanical is better than the paint.

Still likely so, since no other Sambanista has claimed to be rolling one.
I've been all over fb and cl nationwide, trying to find my winter project--- but never saw that Pinto powered thing. Drives me crazy how ppl can be so bad at advertising/marketing--- whoever would consider that creation would surely like to know more about the drivetreain!

Anyway, my (vw)claim stands, please somebody prove me wrong, lol

I'm guessing rear, the "continental kit" probably covers the engine sticking out!

The only one currently on Thesamba! Not everyone knows about this site, amazingly. Or they don't post here.

Another special delivery came up for sale on my local FB matketplace, this one has a Pinto engine! Pretty nice car! I think NJ John is right, its a regional thing. https://www.facebook.com/share/1XTwe5dBDA/?mibextid=kL3p88

OK, over 25000 views. I'm officially claiming to be "the owner of "the only BGW Special Deivery on the road"--- until somebody proves me wrong.
So far-- not one response from anyone actually having one!

Third brake light. Mounted on a bar just 1/2 " inside vents, very bright and can't be missed!

Engine prob was bad connection of ign wires so I swapped to another set which used the snap on top connections. Also had some headache with clutch adjustment. Now she's running like a top and a joy to drive.

Still figuring I must be the only guy out here with one of these still running around - been waiting, but no news from any owners after 23k views ?!

Makes sense. I've only seen 2 Vandetta in the wild.- one was at a show in FL early 90's and one I looked at one for sale in late 90's but it was more rust than fiberglass. Never a BGW anything----anywhere.
I'm guessing many have gone away. This one was first built god knows when, was on road, and the interior was just gutted with sharp metal cuts everywhere, never an attempt to finish. It sat in the Texas sun and got a good sunburn. I've been fooling around , nationwide look-see on craigslist , so far only 1 BGW special delivery, Michigan, it's an automatic. I'm not really looking for another. Maybe a diy prior- built pickup to re-do or something totally odd. I like stockers but my cars are all toys to me for my own entertainment so anything goes.
But it would be great to share with any other owners of these BGW beasts.

I think it’s a regional thing. I’ve never seen a BGW one in person. But, I grew up near where the Vandetta was produced. And I’ve seen many of them over the years. I think the Vandetta was going for a futuristic look.

I say not too uncommon as I could track one down to buy in a day. There are several BGW "special deliveries" (as they were once called) in my area but I am close to Milwaukee where they were made so maybe there are more locally? Usually one shows up at local VW shows here. I even saw one in a junkyard, will try to find more pics. Your car looks great, enjoy seeing it come together.

PS if you are going to hunt anything down you have to use FB marketplace...

I don't get the idea that they are in any way common, since I have been into VW's since before '79 and this isthe only one I've ever seen anywhere. Have seen several Vandettas, almost bought one in 2003. Oftentimes people get confused between BGW, Vandetta, and Wizard. Based on the similarities--- except how rear door hinges-- I do get the idea that a Wizard SD is the same as BGW SD??(Europe licensed?) Correct me or verify if u can.

I don't know how many were produced,.I'm not a big fan of Vandetta because I've always--since childhood--been attracted to all old sedan delivery and the bgw mimics '40 Ford SD fairly well. They are certainly not practical at the rear door design, but the look is smooth.Would prefer hinges.

I might embark on yet another project this winter as I need some entertainment while it's freezing outside, although I need another vw like a hole in the head. I may consider a pickup kit or a speedster or who knows what if the right one appears. Would help me to sell off the restored '58 Scotty camper first just for extra funding. Maybe I should build a vw specific trailer!

They are more common than you might think. There was a completed one for sale on marketplace in MI recently.

This is one I had at age 15. First car! It was super-beetle based and had a body lift. It got a lot of attention.
