Ha! Don't count on it. The only soaring economy will be for the Mega Rich, and they don't buy Vanagons, they buy 400 foot yachts and space ships.

What planet did you live on last trump term?? I’m not rich but I had the most profitable years as a small business owner ever and I remember the cost of everything else too. We’ll see!

I don't really want to start a political war, but learn your facts. Trump rode in on Obama's coattails, and inflation was the backlash of Covid and greed.

Yeah ok. Unfortunately majority of the country disagrees with you. Back on topic.

I think Sprinters and similar vehicle are going to be knocking the bottom out of the prices for Vanagons all too soon. A dozen years ago where I live I saw bay window buses virtually every time I drove anywhere and maybe 5% of the cars on the road were Vanagons. Now the Bays are mostly gone and the Vanagons are rare, with tons of Sprinters and other vans of new larger design being out there in their place.

After Mercedes killed off the Metris here in the US, there is no new Vanagon competitor. Sprinter and Promaster are the new "small" camper vans. If you want something you can fit in a standard residential garage, or in a normal car parking space, the Vanagon is the only game in town. Given how often the VanAlert app pops up with a new one stolen, the demand must be there!

Or maybe his BFF, Elon Musk, will suggest that electric cars are the future and ICE cars need to be banned.

That will sure help sell Tesla, because Elon isn't rich enough.

I will agree that nice, well built "collectibles" will always maintain *some* value but you clearly haven't been keeping your eye on the market. Some stuff that was selling easily not long ago for 110K+ is lingering at 80k

So, even the rich guys are not buying like they use to. But, I'm happy to hear you did it for you and not some fantasy that you were going to make all sorts of money on the sale if/when you sold

Now, I'll never say never to prices going nuts for this stuff again, but the generation that owns them would be pretty hard pressed to spend the money to build one out again, and the next generation is saddled with all sorts of debt and live at home...so unless something changes I think we'll see thing level out a LOT, if not dip due to lack of interest in the platform and finances.

I’m not here to measure d’s! I have no care what they are selling for right now cause I’m not selling mine. It’s a great time to buy. Hopefully the trump years we see a soaring economy and people have extra cash to bring the values of other stuff back up. Syncros are rare as it is. Done well there’s always the right person and a market. At least my kids know they have one they can sell easily.

My vans value has decreased in the last years.
Yeah I have a fairly recent new motor, brakes suspension, cooling system, but they are all older and more worn now than then, plus the original paint is a lot more aged than then. The price to repaint is crazy high.

I may never get her repainted, the clear coat is all but gone, the blue metallic has faded to silver in many spots, and some spots are thin such that rust is starting, I will touch those spots up. I will need to address some leaky windows soon however. else I will certainly get window channel rust.

The high price of parts and paint prevent me from making my van worth more, or even maintaining its value. The question is, will the van or me age out first?

you overbuilt for the neighborhood. you'll never get it back

I did the same with a bay window. you can literally shave in the frame rails because it's so clean and the best offer I had was 70k some years ago

Nobody is going to pop for that now, or in the future

bottom line is you did yours for you, just like I did mine for me. You can't expect the market to bear that decision

Absolutely. I didn’t build to sell. I’m never selling mine. I built my barn for it and my other cars to enjoy them. Maybe too much for your neighborhood. Ever bought a house in California? You’re wrong tho. I have been offered big numbers for my van from collectors and have had the opportunity to sell and won’t cause I use it all the time. Even though I garage it between trips. I disagree with the market for the nice ones. When the economy turns around prices will be much higher. Even to the grocery store. Van prices went down not up when everything else did. Give it time. Rare and nice stuff will always bring the money.

does the tarp under the engine/trans catch gold drips or something that makes it worth that much? Don't put gold dust in your engine or trans case, and then you won't have to worry about catching it... Hmmm... maybe there ARE some oils out there that promote gold as a sweet lube! I better get looking for that right away! Then MINE can be worth putting a tarp under, so I can be a gold prospector too!

Too bad none of mine leak!
