I've seen something similar, and was told it was from the manufacturer of the metal (not the panel - the actual steel)

"Eichen Metall" likely refers to a business named Eichten Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH, a company specializing in metalworking and materials. They work with various metals, including steel, light metals like aluminum, and cast metals. Techpilot lists Eichten as a company with expertise in various materials. They are not a specific type of metal themselves.
Elaboration:
The term "Eichen Metall" is not a standard term for a type of metal. It is likely a reference to the company name, Eichten Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH, which translates to "Eichten Machine Tools GmbH". This company deals with various metalworking processes and materials, not a specific metal.

Hi everyone, I got a VW Bus that, according to his serial number was built in August 1955 (20-144369) (so model year early 1956?). It got this tag inside the rear hatch, it’s seems like it’s poach painted or ? I’m in Volkswagen bus universe since 25 years and I never have seen anything like this. Any idea?
