Use a welder. Buy a cheap welder and tap them out with a hammer with this information. ->Ball Joint Removing <> http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/qa_balljointrem.htm
then instead of having a new shinney tool on the shelf you will have a welder that can set in the corner unused. Vic |

Autozone rents some tools out for free. You just have to leave a deposit. _________________ (O\U|U/O) Top Vw (o\UU/o) |

you can get a ball joint press for about 100.00 and do it yourself. it looks like a heavy duty c-clamp. you can also rent one for 25.00 for a day. i think it beats taking the front end apart and taking it to a shop and waiting and getting reemed and getting pissed and then wishing you took my advice. _________________ "Everyone reading this is a PO." |

Have a VW shop do them. They have the right tools that just any old shop will lack. It's a big improvement over worn joints! |

You will have to have the old ones pressed out and the new ones pressed in. I had a friend do it for me and it taxed his 12 ton press almost to the limit. Check your book (whichever one you use) to make sure how they should be pressed in. There are alignment notches that you need to line up between the ball joint and the receiving arm.

|
|
I just bought new ball joints for my 66, and Im having trouble figuring out how to install them. Is there a special tool to put these in with or do they have to go to a machine shop and be pressed in? If anyone can help please let me know. Thanks |
