Hiya All,
Just a word of caution here.............. the instructions for disassembly of the early style ignition housing found at The Special Patrol Group will not work (completely) for the 887A housing found in Type 2s during the 1970 production year.
Apparently VW was pretty darn secretive concerning the ignition lock barrel and it's removal and disassembly. Probably for obvious reasons. But I've found it interesting while taking apart nine of these ignitions (all 1970 887A housings) VW does not even have a listing or a reference for this particular part. Any literature one can find concerning ignition locks will lead you to believe that the ignition barrel in a 1970 Type 2 was the same as found in the 69. Not so!

i used the type2 help randy referred to. whatever you do, dont lose the small, verry verry small set screw. i did and the only replacement i could find was from a fishing reel. _________________ Mike Boyer-All American Crook |

Go over to the www.type2.com library and look in ignition switches. Couple of articles in there I think. |

It was a good "how to" with pictures. All the links in previous threads are bad. Ratwell had it on his site, but the link is bad also.
I printed it out a while ago, but can't find it. I'm holding off on the drilling part - don't want to screw it up!
Thanks! _________________ Somebody's Heine is drownin my ice box. Somebody's cold one is giving me chills. |
