|
|
I have a set of bumper guards on my Bug like this:
They are held to the bumper by a screw that goes from the guard to the center of the bumper and secured by a nut.
I realised they come with cut-outs which I assume are meant to accommodate the rubber impact strip that runs across the entire length of the bumper. The impact strip looks like the one on this Bug:
My question is how do I mount the bumper guards over the impact strip? It seems the only way is to drill a hole through the impact strip, but that will weaken it and cause it to break.
Are the bumper guards meant to work w/o the impact strip? I've seen ones like these which come w/o the cut-outs:

Those were a dealer installed accessory ,and yes on the Supers you had to drill through the rubber strip, don't use to big of a bit. _________________ "Honey, it's just an old volkswagen" |

Will this cause it to break since the rubber is held under tension? _________________ My German Machine in a tropical island: http://chong.qsurf.org/Veedub/ |

No it will not break. Use a small drill bit and open up litle at at time. The runner will bo longer be free supporting as the guards will in effect clamp it to the bumper and it will not break. _________________ Midwest Autosavers, Inc. Crystal Lake, IL |
