My 53 zwitter has a speedometer dated 3/53 but looks like a 53-60 type speedo. could my zwitter be so late that it had a late type speedo? or?
as far as i can tell it is original.

On your speedo, how does the turn signal arrows look? Is it a single, dbl ended arrow or two seperate arrows?

The '53 speedo is '53 only and is correct for your car. The size of the double headed arrow and the shift points which reflect the 25hp motor are one year only. If you don't want it---I'll buy it. You won't find another one. Wink

are the shift points at a lower speed than the 36 hp cars? if so what are yours at and maybe i could convert to kph to see if they are the same. not sure if that would be correct but worth a try i guess. also what is different about the size of the arrows bigger or smaller?

The arrow is smaller than the '54 and later speedo and the shift points are at 13, 28, & 43. Hope that helps.

I've seen that 53 Only Speedo that came out just after the seperated arrows for the zwitter and it is definately a rare piece! It has a joined arrow that is smaller than the 54 style "fat arrow" and still has the shift points and is date stamped for 53. Not too many of these around.

Hi Just put a picture on Gallery, Parts and Accessories Bug. Don't know how to tranfer yet, so 1 of you can transfer it to here. There are 2 types of 53 speedo's both have small arrow indicaters. later 1 has arrow indicaters connected and early 1 does not. The picture is of speedo is dated 5-53 later 1. Hope that helps.

The pictured speedo is for a '53 oval. The early one you refer to is for the Zwitter, produced until March of that year. Your date stamp makes this an oval speedo. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=209989

Old quote.... Very Happy My digital camera does not interface with my computer. The programs do not match up. I have a Sony camera and Mac computer and one will not read the other. The camera is one of the first digitals (took over my daughters when she got a upgraded one.) and I just need to buy a new one. Wink There are no problems with the new stuff.

Hi Bob thanks!! i've seen that add yesterday, my question was the oval speedo pic I post and the one above, they both come from 53 (one 5-53 the one I post 4-53)but the arrows look diferent?? if the theory there are 2 types of 53 speedo,
1. zwitter speedo with separated arrows
2.speedo with joined arrow that is smaller than the 54
my question why this one dated 4-53 but has fat arrow??

Arrows look the same to me, between those two. Look at how many lnes it crosses top to bottom, and how much space between it and the warning lights on either side.... Looks to same to me...
