Anyone here buy long plug wires and cut to length?

I've always used Taylor spark plug wires and I'd like to carry on doing so.Problem is I don't see any Taylor wires listed for the ACVW application.

Aynone here buy their plug wires long and cut to length?
What boot style do you use and where and how did you handle the shroud seal deal?

I used to make my own wires using Mallory 7mm wire. Most hi-po speed shops sell bulk wire. The distributor cap ends are pretty standard and I used 36hp spark plug ends without the resistor.

When you get into the large 8mm and 8.5mm, getting the wires into the ends is a problem.

For other stuff I've always purchased Taylor wires with the spark plug ends on and then and cut to fit the cap end, nothing new for me.

Cap ends like you said are a normal deal.
The plug ends for a VW are a mystery to me though.

Where do you get non resister 36HP plug ends at?

Also you said you Used to make your own wires.
What are you using now?

I have always used Taylor because they have never given me one lick of trouble and have lasted an incredibly long time.I'm just not sure where to turn to get a really high quality, low resistence wire that won't interfere with the radio for my bug.

I plan on running a coulpe stereo amps and I don't want any of the ignition noise comming over the stereo.I don't plan on using a MSD ignition box or anything like that.
Just a Mallory Unilite and a good coil maybe a Bosch blue or better.

http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=350 Try those, I use'em. Great wires. Plus, get spark plugs that suppress RFI (radio frequency interference.) The sound of snap, crackle and pop in my speakers drove me crazy until I found out it was coming from my plugs.

I had Taylors for a year and a half and I liked them, but I didn't like cutting down the coil wire to fit my bus - the rest of the wires were cut to length for type 1. For whatever reason I had a heck of a time getting the end to crimp on nicely to the wire. I just got the ac.net's wires in the mail the other day and they are really nice. They give a solid snap onto the cap and plugs, and they have an air seal like the stock bosch wires. I personally like them better than the Taylors.

I recall taylor having an 8mm wireset custom cut for a type 1. I'm using that set right now. I did buy it aprox 2yrs ago.

works great for me and has a positive connection to the spark plug.

All of the Taylor wires I've used have gone straight on to plug, no need to remove screwed on tips. I've had to exert a lot of force to pull them off.A little dielectric grease smeared in the boot helps.

There are a few places here in So. Cal. to buy Taylor wires already done for your VW. We sell the taylor 8mm at my job, and vwparts.net (veedub parts unlimited in Hunington beach CA., Moore parts in Anehiem CA, Pacific Customs in Corona CA all sell the taylor 409 10.4 MM wires for like $30 a set, all ready for the ACVW application.

I use the Magavolt Bugpack 8mm solid core with the 009, and pertronix 1 insert. Mallory coil.
the Taylor I bought from CB, 10mm I think didn't fit well and kept coming loose on the distributor cap(they need better ends on them)
the Bugpack $19.95, fit great. (but I have no radio)_
