Anyone have a stock red 55 convert with white seats or pics of one?
Just wondering how many are out there.

Here is a pic of the inside this car was taking of the road back in the late 60's and the inside has never been touched paint and seat og.
Car has 90k og miles on it. The outside was resprayed in the 60's. When I bought it I repainted the out side as the color was off. I used dupot duluxe enamel the perfect vw paint as it color depth and luster are the same as factory to bad they no longer sell it.
I've seen one other car just like it 3 years ago at the CT spring dust off.
but it had been resprayed black and the seats also but you could stilll see the white under the worn spots.
There must be more and color and interior spec somwere.

I'll look in my books, but I have never seen any reference to white leather seats in an oval.

Doesn't the trim and arm rest look original though? If someone did a custom job, you'd think they would have gone all out Question

All the pre 57 post 52 converts had this larger door pocket. Every pocket I have seen are the same size as this, I think my photo makes it look longer. They are the same size as my other 55 door panel ,which is also a og panel from a black car with red interior. This is real, car was never taken apart, its sold and drives nice.

Well, your memory got some of it correct... Shocked ... It was at least 6 years ago, and the body wasn't resprayed black.

Look at the exposed inner door pocket.. Shocked

..and some OG fabric at rear edge of recliner.. Shocked

Factory red 55, white interior with red piping.

I am 99.9% sure the info is in Wilson's book, but some don't trust his info Wink

I never trust Wilson's book, its usually wrong.

But hey, you never know.

Stupid questions though - why is the interior BLACK? Was it dyed?

Just to prove this point, Wilson's book says that a Dolphin Grey 55 vert should have blue interior, well, I've seen both OG grey and mine is actually red. Mine is OG as well.

Just goes to show, you can't always trust the books!

Yes, recolored a very long time ago, from the looks of it. As a kid from the 1960's, during the muscle car era, I recall nobody wanted a red car without a black interior. Back then the only interior color less desirable that white, was red. ( if you were a teenager) Wink

Ahh, someone is watching out for me today. I was wrinting my last post about "less desirable seat colors" while you were putting up a pic of your red seats! At the last second, I added the "if you were a teenager". So, I am not dissing your car Smile

BTW,,, does VW birth cert give interior color? I've never gotten one in all these years.

Another BTW... 36 years ago, I was told by the VW dealer I worked at, to swap seats and door panels on a 70 sedan with another new 70. It was not a combination that was available. So there's 2 1970s that had "wrong" interiors Wink
