i've always wanted one of those motorcycle jacks.
i like the larger platform for pulling engines and eng/trans combos.
i was in pep boys auto supply today. reg price 69.99 after $30 mail in rebate, 39.99.
i get to the checkout and the girl tells me theres an additional $20 rebate this week also.
so i scored my new jack for 19.99.
I love Pep Boys |

I used an ATV jack for dropping a Type 3 engine a couple weeks ago. It was great to not have to try to balance the engine. I just sat the jack under it, removed the bolts and lowered it. Why didn't I think about it years ago. _________________

i think i picked the idea up a while back here on YE Ol' SAMBA.
but i never could bring myself to spring for such a "luxury" when i had a perfectly good shopjack that did fine.
But, for 19.99, how can i pass it up. |

I use one and swear by it! That and a regular high lift jack, I can pull and reinstall the engine in my 62 in about 30-40 minutes by myself. Next to farm jacks a must have. _________________ The memories of a man in his old age, are the deeds of a man in his prime.

I had used a motorcycle jack to install a type 3 1776 that had an auto trans as well. THe 1776 slipped in so easy it was like cheating. I swear by them now... _________________ 1967 Deluxe Sedan

While it's true that mucho crap is being built for cheap in china, it is still cheap enough to buy until it quits and then buy another. I too have one of them ATV jacks and though not as versatile as a regular bonafide mechanic's floor jack, they do pretty good with engine pulls. Plus, they do have a "safety" that locks it in place while doing any work on the "load".
Sweet score, I did pay around $40 for mine. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

it is nearly impossible for me to comprehend that people have been goaded into that way of thinking, and continually buy in to that fucking scam philosophy.
buy good things once and cry about it once. that way you can laugh at the people who buy cheap crap over and over again. |

With the tools I own I try to buy the best concering my job. Sometimes I need a one or two time use tool for car or home projects, so I will buy a cheapy and if I end up doing more work with it later I will step up and buy a nicer one. No reason to buy the best if you are only going to use it once. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.

I bought one of those jacks, but soon came to realize that it's crap. I don't trust it . . . won't use it for safety reasons. _________________ It glared at him from his own soul, and dogged him all his days. i have the pep boys motorcycle jack too , bought it 2 years ago , i'm constantly wrenching on bikes and use it at least once a week , it's not going to fall apart . it's actually built pretty well , only complaint i have is the lever on the jack for lowering it is plastic and my dumb ass friend tried to lower it by kicking the lever . the lever broke off but theres still a knob where it was thats just as easy to turn . my 2 cents , buy the pep boys motorcycle jack , it's just as good as the more expensive ones . |

Good for you. Up here there were so many problems with companies never sending the rebates, that this summer the Cdn. Gov. made it illegal to offer mail in rebates. If it has a rebate, it is given to you at the checkout - discounted from the item. |
