There has to be a better way.....

Well .........last week the last plastic strap on my glove compartment broke.
I got some newer ones from sleepyjoe ( a great used parts contributor here on the Samba) and today I went to install them.
Looks as if I need to remove the entire dash to get the older ones out and install the newer ones.

Maybe, just maybe there is an easier way to do this.
I tried to motivate my huge hands into the area where they go but to no way could I even reach the "bulb" to remove it.

Any ideas from the gurus of glove boxes ??

since i bought my van it has had a heavy peice of fishing line tied up under the dash with a weight clip going where the factory one holds up the glove box. Always thought it was a crafty idea. Sorry I don't have any pics
