Hi,
Early this summer, my engine ( stock 1600 in a 73 super ) developed a progressively loud knock and bad oil leak. The oil was coming from the main seal area. I took the car to the original rebuilder ( it was rebuilt about two years ago ) and he removed and tore it down.
The knock seemed to be coming from the #2 cylinder area. Nothing at all could be found wrong with the internal parts. The oil was checked and no metal was found. There seemed to be no damage at all to the engine. New lifters and bearings were put on since it was apart, and a new double lipped main seal.
The engine was reinstalled, and the knock was still there, as well as a bad oil leak coming from the main seal area.
I'm at my wits end here, as it's taken so long to get this engine looked at and rebuilt Sad
Any thoughts on what could be causing such a bad knock that doesn't seem to be creating interior damage?
Thanks,
Shawn

my only guess is maybe something in your fan or generator? pull the belt and run it for a few seconds and see if it goes away.

other than that, im stumped.
