Odd idle issue

I have an odd idle issue that I would like to look into when I do my next tune-up.

When I start the car cold in the morning it starts quickly and will go strait to a smooth idle, very cool . Later, after it warms up, it will also have a smooth idle. If I shut it off and restart it as I go about my business for the day, it will always start right up. But...It will not idle smoothly unless I rev it 2 or 3 times. It will then idle perfectly. We are not talking about long revs, just 2 or 3 quick taps on the peddle. In all other aspects, the car runs fantastic and idles just fine as I drive. Any suggestions on where to look for an answer?
