whirring noise when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd

A new noise, but it seems here to stay. Can't tell if its getting worse. Basically, when shifting from 3rd to 2nd I get faint whirring noise until its firmly in gear. It sounds almost identical to one of these toy fan whistles. Know what I'm talking about?

Sounds like the syncros. Slow down, double clutch, match revs and see if it gets better. What oil are you using? With it getting cooler you might be hearing this as the oil gets thicker.

Thanks Paul. Not sure what the oil is but I'll find out. It is definitely more pronounced when cold and is less pronounced at lower RPMs. Does this jsut get worse and then grenade? How proactive should I be? I know very little about these transmissions.
