I'm replacing my old 32/36 DFAV and the whole fuel system. Need advice.
74 Westfalia with 1.8l with a center mount weber.
I have purchased 2 Kadron 40's from Art Thaen
My fuel lines are 6-10 years old
Fuel pump: Purolator 42s electric fuel pump, 3 PSI measured pressure Wired directly to terminal 15 on the coil.
Is there a "Best Practice" fuel system design?
What is the best place for the pump? (it is by the starter motor now)
How should it be wired?
Should I continue with two fuel filters?
What is the best fuel line to use?

One filter is enough, between the tank and pump. Gates hose for fuel injection is the best, a bit pricey but will last, or just use the Gates regular fuel hose. If there is room where the pump is now then location is okay. Having a single or double safety relay for the fuel pump is always a good idea, been several write ups on the Samba for each one. |

Maybe for fuel infected.. but he has a center mounted weber.. OG German braided fuel line from tank to crank! Mount the pump away from heat source ..(Exhaust). Nothing wrong with filters but keep out of engine compartment,and away from heat source..(Exhaust).Before the pump is best. Hinders crap from getting in and through pump. The carb. (Your weber)should have a micro filter in the inlet port. Some elec. pumps also come with a pre inlet filter. Just stick with german braided line as a rule. |

The FI fuel line will not only last longer but is a far better hose than the OG braided line. Even the Gates standard fuel line is better than OG braided line. Plus the majority of his hose connections will be in SAE and not metric, better fit with the Gates no matter which style is used. |

Worst advice you could ever give. Stay just as far away from braided fuel line as you can. It may have been the gold standard 10 years ago, but it's simply the worst thing available now. I enjoy a good engine fire as much as the next guy, but keep that shit off of your vehicles and stop recommending it to people.

I believe he is going to Kadron's if I read correctly. Check with Art on what FP he recommends for the Kadron's. You may need a regulator. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

If you get the braided fuel line sold specifically for use with a Type 3 fuel injection system you would probably be okay. Otherwise 30R9 fuel hose is a good bet, it isn't cheap put should last for years. I can get a European spec fuel injection hose from my VW FLAPS that cost only $8 per meter, this isn't that much more expensive than what I would have to pay for the cheap fuel line at a regular auto parts. |

Your FLAPS is ripping you off, regular Gates fuel line runs me about $1.50 foot for 5/16" and $3.25 foot for FI hose of the same size. The Gates is rated for use with Ethanol blend which may be the problem with the German braided. |

Haven't bought FI line from my local FLAPS in a while, but it was close to $10 a foot IIRC. Even Schucks was $6 a foot and they no longer even carry it as supposedly it was a very slow mover. The $8 per meter works out to just under $2.50 a foot, so that works for me. |
