I wonder if someone out there knows where my old barndoor '55 panel bus is at now. I foolishly sold it in 1993 and it went to california. I would appreciate any information.

I would think a chassis number would help if you had it. But I am sure you already thought of that. Its no where in a registry or on barndoor.dk? _________________ DKB |

I looked on the http://barndoor.free.fr/E/BarndoorRegister/BarndoorRegister.htm site, and I think that it might be ch#20-115958, but I am not sure. it was 11 years ago and I wasn't keeping really good track of those things at that time. at least I have some old pictures of it. it would be nice to find out about it. it would be even nicer to buy it back. not that I really need a huge project, but I really regretted selling that one. it was my first panelvan and the only barndoor that I have ever owned. |

As ugly as that front bumper is, it is probably a good thing that it is on there. Something to help identify it. I am sure the bumper is long gone, but someone might remember seeing it on there. _________________ DKB |

Mike- I amaze myself frequently at my ability to recall details about Buses I've seen in the past, but I don't know everything about all of them. As far as I can recall right now, I've never seen that Bus before. Was it possible that it is the one that Hal Spies of Orange County owned? I know he had a '55 Panel that he bought years ago and was working on/restoring for a long time and then it sold on this very website around a year or so ago. Just a shot in the dark on that correlation... _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

| also, if it helps in identifying the bus, the front seat back bulkhead was cut out. and the most embarrasing part for me was that I sold it to david heard. |

That explains it! I swear I saw it at that garage Eric and Dave had. I know it was June, because I was down for the Classic. I'm thinking it was '93 or '94. After that, I don't know. _________________ Ken

OK, wait a minute. Some information is starting to spill forth from my memory banks.
YEARS ago I got a phone call from a couple of kids of a guy who had a Barndoor Panel and his kids wanted to buy some "special" parts for him for the restoration of it. They mentioned it was a 1955 Panel and that the divider wall had been cut out of it. They also mentioned that they wanted to find a set of Barndoor safaris for it. I think it could very well have been Hal's Bus and his kids I was talking to.
Any idea if it wasn't actually Lind's Bus that he ended up with?
I know that the safaris that were in it when he sold the Bus were made by Hal himself. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

of course that is exactly what happened. he immediately responded to the ad, bought the bus and then the newsletter came out. afterwards when I though about it, I felt like a fool. I guess I would rather be a fool than a chump like david. I learned and quit being a fool, but he will always be a chump. what ever happened to him anyway?
I had an interesting thing happen when I was the editor of my local clubs newsletter and the contact person for the club. a guy called me up with a bus that he wanted to give away for free. remembering my experiences with david heard, I tried to be very ethical with the situation. I told the guy that he could put an ad in the newsletter for free. he told me that he just wanted someone to come and get it, that he didn't want to go through the trouble of an ad. after offering the ad to him twice more, I finally agreed to just go and get the bus. it was a clapped out '65 kombi. I wouldn't have paid more than $100 for the bus, but I felt kind of wierd getting it for free because of my connection to the club. I ended up keeping a few items for myself and giving away the rest of the parts off of it to other people in the club who could use them. |

any idea how to get ahold of Hal to find out if it is the one? any idea who bought the bus? I remember it coming up for sale. if it is the same bus and if I had known, I certainly would have bought it. |

The last I heard was he was in school in Chico, that was the early to mid 90's. I know he has at least one friend on here though 'cause a few months back some folks were really tearing him a new (old) one and a few came to his defense. maybe it was him, I have no idea. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

if i remember right, hal spies was sporting that panel in the jeff walters days (i.e. before this one sold) and was bringing it out to SOTO meets to model his repo bd safaris.....but its not like i was there, i was reading SOTO newsletters and HVWs |

Hi Lind- I know that Boneyard Barry is his buddy and Barry posted that '65 Walkthru Westy for 7K here on this site the other day. That will have his email and I know he has to know what happened to it. Good luck. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage
