OK- I'm kind of surprised this hasn't really been mentioned- What is everyones thought on Paul Rui's "Fauxtina" Porsche race support Barndoor. There is a pretty short write-up on it in March '04 Volksworld. _________________ Even YOU can prevent FIRES!

I've seen the pictures forever and scanned the article at my local Everett & Greg, but I always thought it was real! My understanding from scanning the article was that it's not really a former Porsche support vehicle!

it's a fuax- but very nicely done (my opinion) I just starter thinking last night of doing something "faux" (not Porsche related) too- but will need to draw it up fist before I actually think it will work.
So - it's for sale? didn't know that (not like I would even have a hope in that kind of $$$ for a bus) _________________ Even YOU can prevent FIRES!

Surprised it hasn't been snatched up by a buyer in Japan- It is pretty "authentic" for a faux.
I guess what got me thinking is that write-up and the "Jiffy" panel that was for sale last year- (one very nice logo'd panel) and since I don't have the cash for either- or the looks of tripping over a nice logo'd panel in the corn-fields here. It would be interesting to make one-
Thanks Ghis- nice pics. _________________ Even YOU can prevent FIRES!

| It would be alot more apealing to me if it had the correct engine lid, not some slab of tin with a porsche 356 air duct hacked in. And I absolutely hate the front turn signals, missing BD only front emblem and those fucktard huge ass tail lights! But if that's what you get or don't get for your money in England I feel bad for those chaps! 13K in british pounds at 1.89 a pound Jeezus. With all the aforementioned issues I think 13K US would be asking too much. For the money I would look at Mark Merz super rare double door with ROR rear hatch for sale on Bigbulli.com. a much finer and rarer bus! |

The porsche bus is not a residend in the uk, it lives further out in europe somwhere.
I think the seller just put the price in £ as the uk is bus crazy at the moment. same as merz did.
And if merz wants to sell that BD panel why has he only advertised it on big bulli? _________________ (06:31:07) RoachGhia: "i drink dick way too fast" |

I actually like the look of it, it has a look in which Paul was trying to get- it's to look like a support bus, which someone might have actually done those things to. For the asking price- thou - I hope the missing or replaced parts do come with it- I would rather have a "fake" decklid cut in than a real one that has been hacked (as long as it came with the OG) _________________ Even YOU can prevent FIRES!

I posted my thoughts on this bus in another topic, but I will put them here also.
although I do think that bus is pretty cool, I think that there are a lot of things that could be done to it to give it a more correct feel.
1. there were no support vehicles for the carrera panamerica, so those logos don't work very well.
2. it could really use some vintage workshop equipment, like an old floor jack and some toolboxes. a set of wheels in the cargo area would also help give it the race support vehicle look
3. it would be more correct period looking with A brakes and a 2 piece porsche engine.
4. the sebring exhaust belongs on carrera engines.
5. I think the logos are too distressed. I think that they should be a little more visible.
6. and like spooky said, needs a front emblem and to lose the lame turnsignals and taillights.
I like the theme, I just think it could be done better. also, I have a picture of a barndoor that was a support vehicle for racing porsches in the 50s, so that was something that was actually done. |

i checked out that bus at bad camberg and thought it was pretty cool. when i decided i wanted a barndoor, i contacted paul who lives in norway. he was completely up front about that being a fake. he also was up front about the problem areas on the bus and sent me great detailed photos. i decided against buying that bus because the faux painting in something a could do pretty easily myself. i also think the "porsche" thing is too much of an audience call/crowd pleasing bus. if i ever logo my BD panel, it'll be something far more obscure.
i do like the bus and commend him for good work. it just wasnt for me tho. a bus that well known will always be "paul rui's panel". to repaint it would be to obliterate half of the premium that youre paying for at that price. _________________ Extravagant Lifestyle

that would be cool-i would be interested in seeing a few- i have a thought of a "faux" bus (but don't want to mention it...just yet... ), but it may not be as interesting as a bier bus- _________________ Even YOU can prevent FIRES!

oh - the only bus I'll be showing up in is my Chevy Venture MiniVan- LOL- my '60 WILL not be happening (I was refering to it drawn on paper). My panel is sooooooooo far from being road-worthy it isn't even funny (as a matter of fact it's an embarassment... ). So far, I have teh front beam dropped, the engine came out last weekend- to be rebuilt. I attempted to remove the fuel tank and proceeded to bust off the two bolts.. . I need to get a new wire harness - mines been "spagethi-fied" by the P.O. I need all new seals and on, and on, and on- (Maybe I should get a completed bus)? _________________ Even YOU can prevent FIRES!

Oh, I love that Jiffy panel van! I hear it's now in the UK! Major bummer for West Coast fans of that bus. Unlike the Porsche support bus, those Jiffy logos are OG so far as I understand!

yes, the jiffy bus did have original logos. it is a little rough around the edges, but a great bus just like it is. I think it had to be one of the coolest original logo'd buses I have ever seen. anybody could have had it for around $7k. it was for sale for months. I guess most people would rather slowly spend $20-30k+ than spend $7k all at once.
