any thoughts?
My Subaru got smacked by an idiot who evaded my moron detector and his ins. co. stuck me an ugly, ponderous Toyo 4runner. But it does have one great feature - a backup camera.
I am now interested in one for the Westy...
I found one for $500 which is not appealing - any products for the el cheapo Vanergun owner out there? _________________ .... |

I got a $20 camera on Amazon and wired to to my stereo head unit (double DIN screen size). As much as one might scoff at them, they're darn helpful, esp. with a couple of bikes hanging off the back.

A wireless unit to a phone would be neat. _________________ - Jim

Guilty as charged.

I put a Garmin GPS on my Westy that has a backup camera. It uses Bluetooth. The transmitter is powered by a wire from the reverse lights, so when you put it in reverse, the transmitter comes on and takes over the GPS screen. Or you can activate it with a little button on the GPS screen. Or if you have a reverse lights switch you can turn on your backup camera with that..
I like it for hooking up a trailer (on my pickup mostly) I can just back the ball exactly to the right spot first time every time. _________________

Maybe off topic? I started looking at phone and head unit options. Then i decided i
Didnt want wifi camera to phone. I wanted solid state hardwired so i dont have to fiddle.
I looked around and found these guys seemed to have the most bang for the buck. What really impressed me was the modulaity of the options. Wifi vs wired, 4" to 10" displays, grid lines, led lights, different cameras, and ability to add future stuff.
Im doing wired, bluetooth phone, single ccd license plate camera full mitror replacement system.
Mirror mount will require some mods. Ill post install pictures.

Here's a relatively inexpensive option.

My van has a self-dimming mirror with compass and outside temp reader, but a rearview camera would really tie the room together.
