So how does this attach to the door?
It pushes in ok and then you attach the handle with the screw
Then the rosette falls out of the door... doesn't stay in the hole.

I think this foam piece helps to hold it in place. It's been a while since I assembled mine.

A lot of aftermarket rubber does not fit well.

In case you haven't seen it, there is a Delrin fitting for the 84 door:

I have had one for years - great fit, nice and tight. Might seem pricey but IMO worth it.
