is it possible to reverse the output direction in a 914 transaxle ?
simple flip over like vw transaxle or different ring and pinion required ?

I have a 71 Fiat 850 with a VW 1776cc coupled to a VW transaxle (freeway flier). but I need more gears. Thinking of the 914 tranny but it's a pusher..

any input would be nice...Thanks

YES - slight issue with needing to plug/move breather valve. The big cost is changing the nose cone/hockey puck to mate to the VW engine. Remember early 914 til '73 were called tail shifters - BUT shifter is really off to side unlike the 911/912 which were true tail shifters. The later '74 914 were called side shifters and in the 914 configuration shifted smoother (w/less slop) - they are more difficult to make into a tail shifter (and cost more as they are more desirable in a 914). Plus you need to fabricate some kind of support cradle. And of course you need a 5 speed shifter - the VW 4 speed shifter won't work.

Good sources of info and parts are (they are in Germany so shipping can be costly):

The big cost is changing the nose cone/hockey puck to mate to the VW engine

Opps - not engine - meant to say mate to the shift rod in the VW tunnel. Hockey puck should have been hockey stick (the shaft that does the gear selection).
