I am struggling with my carbs. Here is my challenges and I can’t be the only one who is done something dumb. Pulled off kadrons
IDF, dual 40mm, standard jets, Venturi 28, f11 tubes .50 idle, air, mains out of the box etc.
Engine AE code 1972:
1641cc
041 heads
Stock rockers
C/W crank balanced with 12 lb flywheel
009 distributor with points
Here we go,
Engle 110 cam
Can’t get an idle to save my life, runs super rich just horrible. Very frustrating
What jetting and Venturi combination would work best for a decent idle and runs good not great.
What timing?

I did try the .45 idle and ran less rich but still struggled with idle and he air flow adjustment screws had no impact the idle did not fall of in either direction in or out. |

If adjusting the idle screws have no effect I would guess your idle jets are plugged or throttle plates are to far advanced.
Did you do a pre set before installing? |

Any carb/s I buy. Get cleaned and the floats set before installation.
It does not matter who I get them from. The carbs get a rough handling during shipping.
Did you check the float level? _________________ I have learned over the years.

I've always been under the impression that unless you are using the chokes, those plungers have no impact anyway, which is why some many people shove them all the way down (closing off the circuit) and install plugs. _________________ -pariah

What is your fuel pressure? 50 idles will be close enough.
Check your float heights
Re sync. them, make sure your throttle linkage is dead nuts even on each carb
You need to have responding A/F mixture screws at idle on all 4 holes before you move forward with tuning. |

They are behind a backing plate on 99% of the IDF bodied carbs.. hardly anyone actually uses a choke circuit these days...

47.5 idles
10-11mm float height with gasket in place ball NOT depressed
Fuel pressure 3-3.5psi max (critical)
115 mains
190 air corrector jets
And get an SVDA on it. _________________ 1972 Westy Hardtop/Type-4 2056cc

Will a SVDA actually work with a cam that big on a 1641 cc engine. |

Optimally? Likely not. Other option pony up for a CB black box _________________ 1972 Westy Hardtop/Type-4 2056cc
